Trip to Roselands: 5 - 6 March

On Thursday, 5 March, the Grade 1 children arrived at school with bags packed and excitement in the air, ready to embark on their very first Clifton overnight adventure. For many, this was their first night away from home, and it is fair to say that the butterflies were shared by both parents and children alike.

After warm goodbyes, the children boarded the bus and set off for the forests of Hella Hella and the beautiful surroundings of Roselands. On arrival, they were welcomed by an enthusiastic team of camp leaders whose energy and encouragement guided the children through the day’s activities.

The perfect weather set the scene for a walk through the forest to visit the kiwi trees, where the children eagerly sampled the fallen fruit. A refreshing swim and kayaking session at the dam followed, before everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch together beside the water.

With energy restored, the children tackled the muddy obstacle course. They showed wonderful teamwork, cheering one another on and bravely stepping outside their comfort zones. Many fears were conquered, and plenty of laughter was shared along the way. After such an adventurous afternoon, it was time for showers, although some of the mud inevitably made the journey home for a later date with Mom and a scrubbing brush!

After a full and active day, the children settled in for a well-earned night’s rest. The next morning began with cheerful chatter and even a few hopeful requests to stay at Roselands for “50 more nights!” Following a hearty breakfast, bags were packed (with muddy clothes), and the children returned to school bursting with stories to share.

Experiences such as these offer valuable opportunities for children to develop resilience, independence, and a love for the outdoors, while also strengthening friendships and appreciation for family.

Our sincere thanks to the Roselands team for hosting such a memorable and special camp for our Grade 1 children.
