Exciting Touch Rugby Club: Skills, Teamwork, and Fun!
What an exciting 8 weeks it has been on the touch rugby field! This term, we had the privilege of working with a fantastic complementary group of 17 boys and 4 girls, ranging across different age groups. Right from the first session, the energy and enthusiasm were palpable, and over the weeks, it’s been incredible to see the progress, not only in skills but in teamwork, communication, and respect for the game.
One of the highlights of the programme has been the interaction between different age groups. The younger players have benefited enormously from watching and learning from the older boys and girls, while the older players have enjoyed mentoring and supporting their younger teammates. This cross-age collaboration has created a vibrant, positive environment where everyone feels encouraged to improve and contribute.
Over the course of eight weeks, our group has developed and honed a wide range of skills:
Passing and catching under pressure, ensuring accuracy while keeping the game moving
Spatial awareness and movement, learning how to create and exploit space effectively
Defensive positioning, understanding how to cover ground as a team
Communication, both on and off the field, fostering trust and quick decision-making
Beyond the technical skills, the boys and girls have grown in their appreciation of the rules of touch rugby and the importance of working together. Every session has reinforced the idea that rugby is not just about individual talent, but about teamwork, support, going forward and respect both for teammates and opponents.
What has been particularly exciting is seeing the camaraderie that has developed across the group. Laughter, encouragement, and shared celebrations of small victories have made each session enjoyable and memorable. The mix of boys and girls, beginners and more experienced players, has truly enriched the experience for everyone, highlighting the inclusive and collaborative spirit of touch rugby.
In just eight weeks, this complementary group has achieved so much, and the potential for the club growing is huge. We look forward to building on these foundations, developing skills further, and most importantly, continuing to enjoy the game together.
