Grade 4 & 5 Outdoor Learning Day: 24 March

The Grade 4&5 outdoor learning day started off bright and early with a social and emotional learning workshop with Mr Quinn in the Chapel. They were challenged to “do the right thing” in their everyday lives even when it's hard.

We were lucky enough to have a speech and drama performance in the EAC where grade 4&5 performed for the JP children.

After tea, we had a very inspirational talk by Matt Botha, who recently completed the Atlantic Ocean Race, rowing with 3 friends across the Atlantic Ocean. He showed videos and pictures as he spoke about this incredible achievement that took them 36 days! The amazing thing to see was the preparation that went into the trip, the planning and packing of food on a small boat bedding 5000 calories a day to sustain their bodies. Matt spoke about goal setting and how important it was once a goal was set to work towards it, that's often the hardest part. The children had some very interesting and insightful questions which were answered.

The Grades 4’s spent some time preparing for Grandparents day by making an origami box, which we then used to plant some sunflower seeds in. The children stuck a little “sunflower saying” on them with a picture of themselves to give to their grandparents. Huge thanks to Mr Mortimer for the origami help! Saved us buying plastic pots and used up scrap paper.

The Grade 5’s Weather Watchers learnt about clouds. They created a clever ‘tool’ to help them learn the names and identify clouds.
