Drama: Termly Reflection
Lights, Camera, Action: A Dramatic Term to Remember
It has been a whirlwind of creativity and performance in the Drama department this term. From foundational stagecraft to high-stakes festival performances, our champs have truly embraced the magic of the theatre.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the term was the Clifton SADASA Speech and Drama Festival. We were honoured to welcome visiting adjudicator Tracy Laubsher, who witnessed a showcase of talent characterized by palpable energy and pure joy.
Every child from Grade 4 to Grade 6 participated, gaining invaluable experience in theatre etiquette and professional warm-ups thanks to the dedicated EAC staff. The sheer volume of work produced was a testament to our children’s dedication:
5 Choral Verses performed with precision and unity.
2 Mini-Plays that brought stories to life.
24 Individual Poems delivered with confidence and flair.
The results achieved were nothing short of outstanding. While the children loved every moment of creating their dramatic pieces, the official recognition is still to come, we are eagerly awaiting the certificates, which will be awarded early next term.
Coming Soon: Mystery at Magpie Manor.
While our younger stars were busy with the festival, the Grade 7 class has begun work in earnest on their upcoming production, Mystery at Magpie Manor.
Set in the roaring 1920s, this musical mystery comedy is best described as "Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie." Our Grade 7 "Champs" are currently immersed in rehearsals, gaining deep theatre experience as they navigate the comedic timing and stylistic nuances of the era. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and the foundations are being laid for a spectacular show.
Save the Date: We can’t wait to see this production "hit the boards" in mid-May!
