Grade 0 (Frogs and Chameleons): Termly Reflection

A Cheerful and Colourful Start to Grade 0!

The start of the new school year in Grade 0 has been completely charming! Our two classes, Frogs and Chameleons, have created a cosy and caring space for our young Clifton children. The boys and girls have settled in comfortably, making the most of each cheerful school day.

This term, we counted from one to six through catchy songs and clever poems, making learning creative and captivating. In Language, we explored compound words, multi-syllable words, and CVC words. Most excitingly, we began learning the alphabet and were captivated by the curious “C” sound!

One of the crowning moments of the term was our first class bus trip to That South African Place! Our day began with crafty cup decorating for our cooldrinks using colourful stickers. We then combined our efforts as Mrs Sliedrecht showed us how to carefully mix icing sugar for decorating our treats. We even closely examined a Kenwood mixer, chatted about where butter comes from, and practised counting and comparing while measuring with cups and spoons.

With our carefully prepared green icing in piping bags, we climbed onto the buses, cheerfully singing songs filled with our favourite “C” words. The clear skies and comfortable sunshine made it a cracking day for our outing!

On arrival, the children enjoyed carefree playtime before being called in by Mrs Whitehead in small groups. There, they were shown how to create crunchy rice crispy treats for their Easter egg nests. Careful little hands rolled and crafted the mixture into cute nests. Using their piping bags, they added green icing and then chose from three colours to decorate their cupcakes. Finally, they placed their colourful eggs into their nests, creating completely charming Easter treats! The children also enjoyed sipping on a cool cordial drink.

We concluded our day with more carefree play on the jungle gyms before climbing back onto the buses, content and cheerful. It was a completely captivating outing for our little Clifton Champions!

A cordial thank you to the Müller family for hosting us at That South African Place—such a convenient and charming venue. Thank you also to Sanele Dube and Miss White for accompanying and caring for our children on this special trip.
