Encouragement, Kindness and Understanding
Mrs. G's Garden
TCA Families - Hello from Mrs. G's Garden!
TCA Families,
We have several things to celebrate this month! We will participate in showing our love of kindness by participating in the Random Acts of Kindness week and February is Black History Month!
A little history lesson: American historian, author, and journalist Carter Godwin Woodson is credited with the origins of “Negro History Week” starting in 1926. This important week and Woodson's work led to the current recognition of February as Black History Month in the USA.

In honor of Black History Month:
Click on the BHM Conversation link below to view a video from the Classical Academies Vault:
BHM Conversation with former CAV Counselor Charity Marino & Jaye Morris from CAV on Mrs. Morris’ perspective as an African American woman. As educators, we want students to know we encourage curiosity, getting to know people’s stories, and ask questions! Empathy grows when you hear someone’s story and learn about them as a human. Mrs. Morris’s perspective is hers and it might differ from someone else you meet. The hope is to build relationships and ask questions of one another to explore human identities and perspectives.
It's time for Random Acts of Kindness Week! Our school will participate in this fantastic event through encouraging kindness in all students with guided prompts. This week, students have the opportunity to complete a Kindness Challenge! If a student successfully completes their kindness game board, they can return it to their teacher and receive 4 bear bucks! If your student spends most or all of their time at home, you are welcome to print off this GAME BOARD so that you can join us in our Kindness Challenge.
Virtual Calm Room
The counseling team has developed a Virtual Calm Room as a resource for our school community. Sometimes life is challenging and we experience distress. This Virtual Calm Room was created to serve as a break and to help you find new ways to identify & manage strong emotions and build your resilience. These resources will hopefully allow you to reset back to a calm state of mind and body.
We encourage you to make it a priority to care for yourself in healthy ways. Not all coping strategies will feel right so we encourage you to explore some and find what works for YOU!

Do you want help teaching history at home?
A/B and C track students, grades 1st through 6th, have the option of using a history course created by Mrs. Broyles! The course follows our TCA curriculum and is designed to support families in teaching history with video lessons, read-alouds, and fun differentiated assignments as well as optional crafts for extension. It also allows families with students in multiple grade levels the ability to learn similar content with individual, grade-level appropriate assignments. The class, History with Mrs. Broyles, is posted in Schoology. Use this access code: 9C8S-K7K9-R48GP to add it to your Schoology dashboard. This course does not provide access to a teacher, but provides access to the resources needed to support your teaching at home.

Are TCA students able to participate in CAMS sports?
Yes! TCA students can participate, however, there are tryouts and not every student gets chosen. If we have 50 students try out for flag football and they only have space for 20 students, 30 students are not able to play.
Students must be in good academic standing to participate.
For all upcoming sports, you can go ahead and complete the waiver form. Fee will be collected from students that make the roster if cuts are necessary. All fees and waivers submit to CAMS front office.
