Bear Families,

I understand that there is uncertainty and confusion with regard to the parent survey which was released last week. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me to express the personal concerns and desires for their family. Each of you has strong opinions and convictions which we value greatly and we are constantly balancing with the guidelines we have to follow. I sincerely wish that we could honor each and every wish that our community has. I'm sure that you can understand that is simply not possible.

Our primary goal is to ensure that 100 percent of our students are getting the education they deserve.By partnering with parents, providing live zoom sessoins, pre-recorded lessons, and teacher support we feel are able to reach 100 percent of our students. Of course we all want the students back on campus and we look foward to that day! In the meantime, we will continue to provide our current distance learning  programming at least until January 15. Starting the week of Ocotber 12 we will bring a few  small groups of students on campus. This will allow us to ensure that all of our protocols and procedures are in place and working as planned. As we can, based on the current safety guidelines that we need to follow, we will look for ways to include more students on campus. Again, this will not take away from what  we are currently doing, but will simply add to that. Any of these on-campus opportunites will be optional. We are committed to allowing everyone to stay on their current track and classes, regardless of what we decide to do second semester.  Our teaching staff is constantly shifting and adapting to best meet the needs of each and every student academically, and will continue to do so throughout the school year. We are still establishing criteria to determine which students will be included in the small groups on campus . We are also looking forward to seeing the results from the Parent Survey to help us make additional decisions about ways to support your students both virtually and in person.

Marcy Cashin, principal of Coastal Academy, created THIS VIDEO to better explain. Though the video talks about Coastal, everything she states in the video applies to the Bear Valley campus as well!

The entire Bear Valley team wants the best for our families and students, and continues to work through obstacles to make it happen. Working together we can accomplish great things. Thank you for trusting us as we continue to navigate through these uncharted waters!

Unit 1 Virtual Field Trip - 9/28

... to Paris?!?

COVID-19 may be keeping us from having actual unit field trips right now, but that doesn't mean that we can't use the power of the Internet to visit some amazing places. (This is an OPTIONAL activity and can be completed whenever you'd like, if you'd like.)

CLICK HERE to take a virtual trip to Paris, France! Visit the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Arc de Triomphe and more! Grab a baguette and click your way around this historical city and explore all there is to see.

Chipotle FUNdraiser

Join us at Chipotle on Auto Parkway on Tuesday, September 29th from 4-8 PM for a FUNdraiser! Chipotle will give 33% of proceeds from eligible sales to TCA. Please download the flyer HERE and print or show on your phone for us to receive credit for your purchase!

The Lunch Bunch

Our School Counselor, Mr. C, is going to start small virtual social groups during Unit 2.

The Lunch Bunch is a great way to get our kiddos together and help them smile!

If you have any questions or are interested please check out Mr. C’s Corner linked below in the Buzz.

Need a book?

Great news! Our Bear Book Den is now portable!

Beginning Monday, September 21st, we will have our rolling library cart outside of the Front Office where you can borrow books of various genres for your students to enjoy reading!  The cart will be accessible from Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. We will be doing an honor system, therefore there are no barcodes or a formal check out system when borrowing the books. You may simply take a book and return it to the bin next to the cart once you are done.

For any further questions, please contact our Front Office at (760) 546-0101.

Parent Training

The unit is quickly coming to an end and your first conference is approaching. We want to make sure that you and your student feel prepared and excited to meet with your Educational Specialist or Teacher.

Please join our Zoom on September 29th from 3:00-4:00.  The goal is to set you up for success for all your conferences this school year.

The Bee Kind! Corner

BEE KIND! Has your student demonstrated extra kindness? We want to celebrate our students as they go above and beyond to be kind to others!

Please complete THIS FORM to nominate your child.

Throughout this school year, students will be featured in the Bee Kind! Corner of the buzz for above and beyond acts of kindness.

Micah Malone (3C - Crites)

Micah, along with several other kids, helped create thankyou cards and baked cookies for the Oceanside Police Department, where his dad works. Every employee, including sworn officers and professional staff, got a hand made word of encouragement and baked good in their department mailboxes when they came to work.  The department was very appreciative!

Kaylie Malone (5B - Przybylowski)

Kaylie, along with several other kids, helped create thankyou cards, baked cookies, and made 25 thin blue line rubber loom bracelets for the Oceanside Police Department, where her dad works. Every employee, including sworn officers and professional staff, got a hand made word of encouragement and baked good in their department mailboxes when they came to work.  The department was very appreciative!

Want to Lend a Hand?

That being said, you may check out this link to see our current campus needs. Once completed, you may fill out the Parent Volunteer Hours Form to indicate you have dropped off such items.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Christina Mitchell. We are so thankful for your help!

School Meals Available at Community Locations

On September 1, 2020, the USDA extended the summer grab-and-go school meal program for all children until December 31st, 2020. Children aged 1-18 are eligible to receive meals regardless of school or district of attendance. School districts are working hard to implement the new guidelines and meet local needs. Locally, we are aware of meal services in Escondido, Oceanside, and now Vista. Please visit their websites for more information. To find out when your neighborhood school will be ready to participate in this program, please visit Fall 2020 Meal Sites for Students

Logic of English Tutorials

Families who are using Logic of English (LOE) Foundations Book A or LOE Essentials book, we have some exciting news!  Our literacy specialists have recorded teaching videos for all lessons that are included in Unit 1! These videos are designed to help you with your instruction and should be watched along with your student. There are some pauses during these videos, as the literacy specialists take on the teacher role and allow some time for your child to respond. These videos are to help you with a program you may be unfamiliar with.

If you would like to utilize these recorded videos, you may add the appropriate course by using the following Schoology course access code(s):

COVID-19 Cancels 4th-6th Grade Class Trips

The 4th, 5th and 6th grade class trips will be canceled this year due to COVID-19.

With shifting health updates, and the unpredictability of just how the school year will unfold, we have made the tough decision to cancel these class trips for this year.

Our 7th grade class trip has been moved from September 2020 to February 2021 and our 8th grade class trip has been moved from November 2020 to March 2021. We are sincerely hoping that these trips will still happen. Obviously, as the dates get closer for these trips, we will keep our travelers updated if changes arise or a cancellation is needed.

We regret this is happening and hope to see these educational adventures return next year.
