Conference Notebooks
We’re excited to share a new tool we’re introducing this year to support your child’s learning journey - Conference Notebooks! Each student will receive one when you pick up your books from your A/B teacher or ES.
The purpose of the Conference Notebook is to help guide our conference conversations in a focused, meaningful way. It’s designed to highlight the most essential standards at your child’s grade level and give us a shared lens for looking at progress, strengths, and next steps.
In education, there’s a powerful process known as the PLC - Professional Learning Community - where teachers regularly come together to look at student data, collaborate on best practices, and determine how to best meet the needs of every learner. We want to take that same thoughtful, student-centered approach and extend it to you, our valued partners in learning. Together, we can better identify what each student needs to thrive academically.
We look forward to using these notebooks to celebrate growth, set meaningful goals, and work as a team to support your child.
Please review our school's Cell Phone and Smartwatch Policy. Highlights from the policy are written below. To see the full policy and all details, CLICK HERE.
Students may have personal cell phones and smartwatches on campus but they must be turned off or silenced and placed in their backpacks while on school grounds (including break, lunch, and after school activities).
If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian for any reason during the school day, they may use the front office phone or they may use their cell phone/smartwatch in the front office with permission. If a parent needs to contact a student, they should contact the front office, not the student’s personal cell phone/smartwatch.
Students may use their cell phone/smartwatch after dismissal time, once they are off campus, when the school day has concluded.

Experience a sojourn in America’s past, exploring the great conflict that
divided state from state and brother from brother. Bring history to life and live a day in the life of a Civil War soldier.
On this field trip you will debate the war then decide whether to secede, join the union or stay neutral.
The Civil War comes to life as you experience activities such as a regiment drill, a visit to the Surgeon’s infirmary, and perhaps a lesson in 19th century etiquette.
Once finished with all your camp posts, you will be given a soldier’s ration of lemonade, cornbread, cheese, an apple and dried beef. Concluding our visit, we will participate in a large mock battle, reenacting the Battle of Malvern Hill.
Make the most of your trip, stick around and visit the bakery and barn store.
Visit RileysFarm.com to explore what they have to offer.

Here are some important reminders regarding our sickness policy:
Students who appear ill (ie. fever, stomach aches, diarrhea, stomach pains, vomiting) should not be sent to school.
If your student is sick, please email your teacher/ES (you do not need to call the front office).
A student must be fever free without the use of fever-reducing medicine (i.e. acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen) for 24 hours before returning to school.
Parents: You may not send students to school with medication (including over the counter medication).
ALL medications must be kept in the front office. Medication may not be kept in a student's backpack, lunch bag or on their person. Exceptions may be made if a licensed health care provider certifies that the student’s well being would be jeopardized unless the medication is carried on his/her person, the student has demonstrated competency in self-administering the medication, and a parent confirms the same.
Click Here to print the required medication form to get authorization to keep medication in the front office.
Questions? Email Stephanie Pillsbury spillsbury@classicalacademy.com
As a California independent study school, we are required to offer optional synchronous (live) instruction opportunities for students. This provides a chance for students to connect with a credentialed teacher in real time for academic support. There is no negative impact for the student if they do not attend.
At The Classical Academy synchronous (live) instruction opportunities are offered through scheduled meeting times with your A/B teacher or Educational Specialist. If you would like more information about times available to your student, please reach out to their teacher directly.
We are required to notify families when students do not take part. No action is required.
Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Families,
At the beginning of this school year, let me remind you that how you talk about math influences your children. Even though I personally belive math is fun, I am fully aware that not everyone shares this view. As your child's primary instructor, allow me to suggest that this is an appropriate area to 'fake it until you make it'. Go ahead and get excited about math curriculum! Go ahead and tell them, "Yay! It's time for math!"
There are endless ways to make math more fun for your children at home. Here are some ideas to help you get started!

Do you want help teaching history?
A/B and C Track students in grades 1–6 have the option to take an alternate TCA history course created by Mrs. Broyles. Please note that students enrolled in this course will not have access to a history teacher. Instead, parents are responsible for guiding their students through the course materials independently at home.
This course is designed to support families with video lessons, engaging read-alouds, differentiated assignments, optional crafts, and extension videos. The structure intentionally aligns history learning across grade levels so that families can experience and enjoy learning history together.
If you want to join TCA History with Mrs. Broyles, use this access code: 7BZ8-FT94-N38BX to add it to your student's Schoology dashboard.
For instructions on adding a Schoology course using a code, click HERE.
