Here at CAMS, we view competitive athletics as a critical tool for developing the discipline, character, communication, and sportsmanship skills that are consistent with our TCA philosophy of developing tomorrow's Thinkers, Communicators, and Achievers.
This interscholastic program provides an athletic opportunity for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls to compete against Escondido-based schools in a variety of sports throughout the school year! We use locally based facilities for practices and rely on our parents to help coach and support our teams. These sports include flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, with one cross country and track meet.
This program is for currently enrolled 7th and 8th grade M-Track students at CAMS, SORA, and C-Track students from The Classical Academy, Escondido campus.
Students must maintain a C or higher in each class to participate in extracurricular opportunities including but not limited to: sports, musical theater, ASB, dance, etc. Student-athletes are expected to meet all expectations of school behavior described in the Parent Student Handbook.
Our students heavily rely on our awesome parents to coach our teams! If you played in college, high school, have some, or no experience at all, but love working with kids, please let Mr. Powell know! Interested but not sure if it fits your schedule?? Here is the basic commitment:
Season: Approximately 8 weeks long
Games: Average season as 6 games on Friday afternoons at 1pm, all in the Escondido area.
Tryouts/Practices: Your call. Most teams practice once a week from 3:30 to 5pm. You pick the date, location, and time the works best.
Benefits!: You complete your volunteer hours for the school, free Nike coach's shirt, no sports fee for your child playing on the team, and the personal fulfillment that comes with watching a group of students come together and collectively learn, improve, and make new friendships!
We participate in the Escondido Small Schools League and play the following teams:
Heritage Jr. High
Some sports will pick up additional games, if desired, against other area teams such as Escondido Adventist, St. Joseph, Valley Center Middle School, etc.
Note: There is ONE Cross Country meet between Seasons 1 and 2, and ONE Track Meet before Spring Break.
Financial Contribution
All athletes are asked to contribute financially to the athletic program for the sports they participate in. This helps to cover equipment, facility rentals, and referee costs, as well as other items that help build an amazing program.
Uniform
We have new jerseys to loan to players at the beginning of each season. They must be returned or will incur a $40 lost/damaged fee.
*the picture below is NOT the jersey!
Girls volleyball has a separate team sports top that is loaned to students at the beginning of the season.
Sports Waiver
Each athlete must complete and turn in a sports waiver to participate in any of our sports.
This form only needs to be filled out one time and is good for any additional CAMS sports teams your player gets rostered on during the school year.
Waiver information will be sent at a later time.
I Want to Play - How Do I Know When Tryouts Are?
Tryout occur 2-3 weeks prior to the season starting and information will be provided repeatedly at the following locations:
Morning Announcements at CAMS
Schoology Updates (Classical Academy Middle School and CAMS Student Announcements)
This page, in the "Badger Athletics News" section at the top.
Are There Cuts? What Skill Levels Make the Teams?
This is a competitive league and we play to win games so yes, sometimes there are cuts based on number of students that try out. Having said that, we were able to have over 200 students participate in our various sports teams this past year!
Many of our sports offer an A and B team with A players being higher skilled and B team learning and working on their gameplay. Many coaches also will offer, at their discretion, a "practice team" that focuses basic skill development during practices with limited playing time during the interscholastic games.
Sports that offer A and B Teams: Volleyball, Flag Football, Basketball
Cross Country Meet: One race only - not an ongoing team. Open to anyone to participate; no tryouts or cuts
Cross Country Meet Running Layout - Jesmond Dene Park
