Abrasions

Lens based (series of 9), 10 x 12 inches

An abrasion can be defined as an area damaged by scraping or wearing away. In a physical sense, an abrasion can be used to describe an open wound.

As humans, we have psychologically evolved to sense and prevent danger. However, I personally believe that this form of acquired adaptation has caused us to be ashamed of our own scars. We fear the idea of getting hurt as we continue to ruminate our thoughts and fantasize about a life where we don't get hurt. This mentality has often lead us to fear our own traumas instead of dealing and overcoming them.
