Identity

Through the chiyogami, charcoal, gold, and raw wood, these seemingly opposing materials and Japanesque style were combined to make a cohesive work. Inspired by Lauren Brevner’s art style, this work represents- ‘challenges with Identity’. The subject is shown in a ‘passport photo’ style that conveys my exterior identity- Japanese. Background includes various shapes- the ‘clash’ in my experience and culture. The gold represents ‘kintsugi’ (金継ぎ), which ties everything into one identity.
