YEAR 7 PERFORMING ARTS

DANCE

Semester Course

Students develop their fine and gross motor skills, co-ordination and creativity while learning about the elements of dance. The focus of the course is modern music theatre styles. Assessments will be based on participation in workshops, rehearsal processes and public performances. They will perform a musical theatre piece to the parents at the end of the semester. Students will also get to design their own shoe box theatre. The emphasis being on creativity and transferable skills.

DRAMA

Semester Course

Drama focuses on musical theatre and puppetry. Students develop a range of dramatic skills including stagecraft, characterisation, use of voice, differing performance styles, responding to a performance and creating a performance. Students will be given an opportunity to develop and challenge their own level of confidence in a safe class environment. They will participate in a shadow puppet performance that will be performed to an audience of pre school children from the local day care centre. This gives them an authentic audience and an experience that they will remember in front of a non threatening audience.

MUSIC

Semester Course

The focus for Music is on practical, group activities that encourage musical expression without necessary specialisation on an instrument. Students will sing, play, create and record, experiencing the fun and satisfaction that music can bring.

SCHOLARSHIP MUSIC

Year Long Course

This is a year-long course with admission by application. Activities include solo performances, creating original music and exploring music technology. Students must undertake formal study of an instrument, or voice, outside of this class time. Students are expected to participate in at least one College Music Ensemble (band, choir, etc.) The class will meet twice each week, Tuesday 3.15pm - 4.10pm and Thursday 7.45am - 8.25am.
