Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences is designed as a launchpad into Senior School ATAR Geography, Economics and History. The academic requirements of the course are reasonably rigorous in order to help students to understand the expectations of our ATAR courses. Students need to get over 65% in the first semester of Year 10 in order to be recommended to choose these courses in Senior School.
Humanities and Social Sciences consists of four inter-related disciplines: Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History.
Concepts covered will include:
Justice at home and overseas.
Economic performance.
Management of economic performance by the government and Reserve Bank.
Environmental change and sustainability.
Developed and developing nations.
World War Two.
Persecution of Aboriginal people and the development of rights and freedoms
Underpinning the development of essential knowledge, are associated skills such as inquiry, analytical, evaluation and communication skills.
The courses are designed to not only develop skills associated with Humanities, but also to help improve the literacy and numeracy skills of the cohort.
