Semester Course
In Food specialisations, students explore and identify sensory properties of foods used in creating healthy eating solutions.
Students in this course will:
Learn the Healthy Eating Pyramid and the importance of feeding our bodies the right fuel;
Understand recipes and how they are used to produce food products;
Follow and implement basic food preparation skills;
Develop an awareness of food hygiene and kitchen safety;
Create food solutions using the Technology process: investigate, define, design, produce, evaluate
Demonstrate a safe use of kitchen equipment, eg. ovens, stove top, knives;
Demonstrate basic food selection ordering procedures;
Work independently, and collaboratively with fellow students.
Semester Course
In Materials and technologies specialisations, students identify decision-making demands of selecting and combining materials, systems, components, tools and equipment.
Students in this course will:
Set up and thread the sewing machine to function correctly;
Explain the function of the major working parts of the sewing machine;
Use the sewing machine efficiently;
Demonstrate the ability to use pressing equipment efficiently and safely;
Construct simple articles using a range of techniques and skills. This could include, inserting a zip, quilting, applique, embroidery and more.
Use appropriate equipment and techniques for measuring, marking and cutting when constructing an article;
Demonstrate all aspects of the Technology process: investigate, define, design, produce and evaluate.
Work independently, and collaboratively with fellow students.
