Semester Course (4 periods/wk)
Students develop specialised skills and abilities in exclusive sports over a semester. Foundation concepts in sports science are introduced with an emphasis on skill development, individual performance analysis and understanding how athletes improve outcomes in competitive sport situations. All aspects of this course provide students with a basic understanding of the requirements needed in senior school Physical Education Studies courses.
COURSE OUTLINE
Topics covered include: Functional anatomy, Biomechanics, Motor learning and Coaching, Lawn bowls, Golf, and Gaelic football.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Students will be assessed on the following:
In class written test - Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics
Written laboratory investigation - Motor Learning and Coaching
Demonstration of skills and tactics in Golf
Demonstration of skills and tactics in Lawn bowls
Self Management Skills
Interpersonal Skills
EXPECTATIONS
It is desirable that students maintain a high level of physical fitness and high standards of personal excellence.
Students are to participate in all aspects of the course both theory and practical.
Students are to consistently demonstrate high levels of preparation and organisation.
Students may be required to be available for umpiring/officiating commitments on behalf of the College.
There is no programmed homework for this subject. Although, if students fall behind or miss programmed classwork it is an expectation that this is completed out of class time.

Enjoyment and adventure in the outdoors are part of our heritage and the Australian environment offers a perfect venue in which to be able to fulfil these desires. As our society continues to emphasise the importance of understanding and respecting our unique environment, the trend towards challenge, exploration and travel in our great outdoors has increased. Those students interested in the environment and operating within it will find the insights gained from this course very rewarding.
COURSE OUTLINE
Topics covered will include: Archery, Bushwalking, Martial Arts and Sailing. Many of these activities are conducted in the natural environment and conducted off campus. These include a half-day excursion to the Gooralong Park Trail in the Serpentine National Park and a half-day excursion sailing the waters of Mangles Bay.

In class written test - Weather prediction and sailing skills
Written laboratory investigation - Judo (Martial Arts)
Demonstration of skills in Bushwalking
Demonstration of skills in Archery
Self Management Skills
Interpersonal Skills
EXPECTATIONS
As the course has a heavy physical component, this course is not recommended for any student with a current or recurring medical condition that may impact on their level of fitness and ability to complete the recreation activities.
Students are to participate in all aspects of the course both theory and practical.
Students are to consistently demonstrate high levels of preparation and organisation.
Students are primarily responsible for their own safety.
There is no programmed homework for this subject. Although, if students fall behind or miss programmed classwork it is an expectation that this is completed out of class time.
