Semester Course
As we move towards independence there are always a few things that we would like to have a good grasp of. Life skills such as how do I apply for a rental property? What costs are involved? Should I have a credit card? How do I save for my overseas holidays? How do I change a tyre?!
The Life Skills course has been specifically designed for students to build an understanding of how the world works away from the school grounds, how to run a household budget and manage money, what tax is and how it works, understanding insurance and more! A hands on and useful skill building course that will help the young adults of tomorrow make informed choices in their life as they step into independence.
Students also have the opportunity to partake in the Keys for Life program.
Keys4Life is a pre-driver program that helps to educate young people about safer road use and allows them to sit their Learner's Permit Theory Test. Preparing young people for safer driving is an important component of the Western Australian road safety strategy as each year young drivers are over-represented in road crash statistics.
The Keys4Life program is funded by the Road Safety Commission, administered by the Department of Education, and delivered by registered Keys4Life facilitators/teachers. The program can be implemented in school with young people aged 15 years and above.
As part of the Keys4Life curriculum at Kolbe Catholic College, students also partake in a car maintenance incursion teaching them basic car maintenance, checking oil and water and changing a tyre.
