Students in Science in Year 10 will be split into pathways. These pathways are designed to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve success.
Pathway 1 caters for students who require extra support and a more hands on, project based approach to develop their science knowledge. Pathway 1 students are welcome to continue with General Science courses in Year Eleven.
Pathway 2 caters for the majority of students. Students must maintain a grade of 70% and above if they wish to study an ATAR Science in Year Eleven.
Pathway 3 works to extend students to some of the content they will deal with in ATAR Science Courses. Students must maintain a grade of 65%+ to be able to continue with an ATAR Science.
CHEMISTRY
Students develop their understanding of atomic theory to understand the relationships within the periodic table. They will look at different types of chemical reactions and their products and understand how they occur at different rates.
BIOLOGY
Students will learn about the transmission of heritable characteristics from one generation to the next. They will examine the theory of evolution by natural selection, looking for evidence and its consequences on the diversity of living things.
PHYSICS
Students understand that motion and forces are related by applying the laws of physics. They will explain how energy transfers and transformations can explain energy conservation within a system.
EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES
Students will learn about the relationships between aspects of the living, physical and chemical world that are applied to systems on a local and global scale. We will also cover the evidence surrounding the Big Bang.
