REQUESTS DUE ON JUNE 15, 2026

The DPW shade team will show you how it's done. Building shade for your department so you can function on playa. In this form you can order the original DPW wood shade structures, the new pole kits, and replacement parts for the pole kits that may have been assigned to your department in the past. 

Before requesting ANY new, expanded, or custom shade, first contact Twin.Peaks@burningman.org

To have your dates honored, you will need to turn in a detailed site map with dimensions and distances from lot lines by June 15th if there are any changes.

To have your structure built by your requested/assigned dates you will need to: Have someone on playa as a point person a minimum of 48 hours before your structure can be built or have 100% confidence in site maps, but ideally both. Any missing information, or not having a point person may result in the delay of your Shade’s construction. Once built, structures cannot be moved or changed if it is a wood structure. 

Definitions for shade dates:

Start date: is the day you prefer the shade to be started. This means there is someone there with a map to tell the shade survey team where to put it. We can usually build it within a day or two of this date. 

Drop dead date: is the date you need the shade in place before it becomes a problem for your department logistically or operationally

End date: is when the item can be removed if you need the Shade team to remove it. If you DO NOT need the shade team to remove it, such as with POLE structures, then please leave this field BLANK. Make sure all wood (DPW Shade) structures are clear of personal items and remove any and all screws, hardware, and items that were attached to the structure BEFORE this removal date. 

NOTE: This request serves as a way to START the conversation about your needs. If your request is EXACTLY as last year or smaller it will be approved. If there is any increase to size or expense we will follow up with you to discuss if we can accommodate the request. If you want to move from a previously approved wooden shade structure to a POLE structure please make a note. We can usually accommodate this if the size is close to the same.

You should receive a reply about this request from DPW but please feel free to reach out to twin.peaks@burningman.org if you haven’t heard back in a timely fashion. Do not assume this work will be done unless we have had a conversation and you have received confirmation from management. Thank you.
