What is Cyclone Fence?🔥🛠️

Cyclone fence—aka chain-link fence—is a woven metal barrier that keeps things in, keeps things out, and at Burning Man, keeps things safe. Unlike the boundaries of Black Rock City, which are defined by the trash fence and the principles of radical self-reliance, cyclone fencing is used strategically to protect the most safety-sensitive areas of the event.

You’ll find it around fuel depots and other critical infrastructure—places where art, adventure, and exploration need to pause in the name of safety. Think of it as the playa’s “Caution: Art in Progress” sign, not a wall to keep people out, but a reminder that some spaces require extra care.


MAKING A NEW REQUEST(S):

To submit a new cyclone fence request, visit the Business Services Dashboard. Once logged in, navigate to the “Request Resources” section and start a new request. On the request form select “Cyclone Fence” from the asset type dropdown. Fill out your project details and click submit. You will receive an automated confirmation email once your request is successfully logged. Please submit a separate request for each physical location.

MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR REQUEST(S):

To make changes or cancellations, navigate back to the Business Services Dashboard, click on "My Dashboard" and then "Requested Resources". Locate the reservation you'd like to modify and click Manage. From there, you can edit each section of the request. You can edit your request as often as you like, we understand things happen and change. ALL changes are subject to availability after the initial request window closes.

WHATS THE STATUS?
You will receive a series of automated email updates to keep you informed:

• Submission Confirmation: Sent immediately upon successfully submitting your request.

• Approval / Denial: When the Budget Manager and DPW have both reviewed your request, you will be notified of the fullfilment decision. 

• Deployment Instructions: A detailed email regarding deployment will be sent as we approach go time.

Real-Time Tracking: You can monitor the progress of your request at any time. Simply visit the Business Services Dashboard and navigate to My Dashboard > Requested Resources to view current status and updates.

How will I know when the fence is going to be installed?

On the request form we ask what your install window is. Our vendor will do their best to install during that time frame. You can call out for DPW Logistics on DPW Ops and ask the status.

Is a layout map really necessary?
It's provided to our vendor to ensure they install the fence the way you'd like. The map doesn't need to be professionally done. You could draw it on a napkin and take a picture - anything is better than nothing.
