What is a dumpster? A dumpster is a large, heavy-duty, movable waste container used for collecting and holding the significant amounts of landfill trash, recycling and organics collected by the TSA and at other sites in BRC before, during and after the Event.
Fun fact: Dumpster is like Xerox or Kleenex, it is brand name. The name comes from George Dempster and his company, Dempster Brothers in Knoxville, TN, who developed the first hydraulic lift system for waste collections in the 1930's.
What is a Dumpster Request? 🗑️🔥
The Dumpster Request system provides dumpsters to departments and teams to support operations across Black Rock City. Whether you need a 15 cubic yard open-top for contaminated playa, a 30 cubic yard roll top for collecting aluminum cans, or a 40 cubic yard open-top for landfill waste collected on the highway, this system ensures departments and teams can request the right dumpster for the job.
🚨 Important: Dumpster requests are subject to review and approval. A Dumpsters should only be requested if your department has budgeted for one. Departments receiving a Dumpster are responsible for proper use.
MAKING A REQUEST(S):
To submit a Dumpster request, visit the Business Services Dashboard. Once logged in, navigate to the "Resource Request" section, then click on "Dumpsters". The request form will load and fill out the required details. After submitting, you’ll receive a confirmation, and your request will be processed accordingly. Please submit one request for each size/type of dumpster and waste stream. For example: If you need two Landfill 30 cubic yard roll-top dumpsters to collect landfill waste, this can be one request. However, if you need one Landfill 30 cubic yard roll-top for landfill waste and one Recycling 30 cubic yard open-top for Mixed Recycling, this would be two separate requests.
MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR REQUEST(S):
To make changes or cancellations, navigate back to the Business Services Dashboard, click on "My Reservations" and then on "BRC 2026 Reservations". Locate the reservation you'd like to modify and click view. From there, you can edit each section of the request. You can edit your request as often as you like until the request period ends. ALL changes are subject to review, approval, and of course availability.
CONFIRMATIONS & DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS:
You'll receive a couple of email updates along the way for each request. The first one when you submit your request, the second when your Budget Manager and DPW have reviewed the request and approved it and then finally a confirmation email when our vendor has confirmed their availability. All Dumpster delivery logistics are managed by mr.blue. Delivery dates will be confirmed with you by July 15, 2026.

Can I see what I requested in 2025?
Yes! Go to the Business Services Dashboard, click "My Reservations" and then "Previous Event Cycles"
How will I know if my 2026 request has been approved?
You'll receive an email confirmation. You can also check the status of your request by visiting the Business Services Dashboard, clicking "My Dashboard" then "Resource Requests" and observing the Status column.

FAQ
Can anyone request a dumpster?
The quick answer is No! Department camps, staff camps and work sites are required to bring their waste streams (landfill, recycling and organics) to the TSA Transfer Station and the TSA Organics site at the Commissary. New Dumpster requests from specific departments or teams require planning, budgeting, review, and approval.
If we requested a dumpster last year, do we have to request it again this year?
The quick answer is Yes! Even though mr.blue will likely remember you had a dumpster last year, he doesn't know if you need one this year until you request it.
