Over the past week, the boys tennis team sent two singles players and two doubles teams to compete in the 12th Region Tournament. The two singles players were Sean Guiney and Jacob King, while the two doubles teams were Desmond Rapp with Alosha McSweyn, and Cooper Costello with Bryar Bentley.

In the singles tournament, Jacob King beat his first opponent in the round of 32, before losing in tiebreaker to Zach Hesse from Wayne County. Sean Guiney had a successful tournament run, winning his first two matches. Guiney eventually got matched up against the number one seed in the tournament in the quarter finals, where he lost in super tiebreaker. 

Desmond Rapp and Alosha McSweyn went out in the first round in super tiebreaker for the doubles tournament, ending their season. Cooper Costello and Bryar Bentley also lost in the first round in super tiebreaker as well. 

As the individual seasons end, the Rebels look forward to team regionals next week. Talking about the season, Sean Guiney said, “I’m very proud of everyone on this team. Everyone has experienced a lot of growth and I feel like the team will take another jump next season.”

On the 28th, the Boyle boys' tennis team went on the road to play Lincoln. With amazing weather, they were ready to battle. There were some close matches, the doubles teams were having a difficult time but at the end of the night, the score was 5-4, Boyle! 

They had Sean Guiney, Jacob King, Alex Godbey, Desmond Rapp, Finn Strand, and Bryar Bentley playing in signals. In doubles, they had McClain Denny and Bryar Bentley, Desmond Rapp and Alosha McSweyen, and lastly Brady Jackson and Cooper Jackson. 

McClain Denny says, “As the day went on, I could tell that Bryar and I were going to be the deciding match. We would have to go out there and get the job done, and that's what we did.”

With the Rebels coming off a great win they are ready for the next game. It will be their senior night at home against Somerset Christian.

On Thursday, the boys tennis team hosted the West Jessamine Colts in a close 12th Region matchup.

In the number one singles slot, Sean Guiney was able to take care of business. Jacob King followed suit in the second singles position, winning his match as well.

Alosha McSweyn and Desmond Rapp handled their matchup in the number one doubles spot. Even with Cooper Costello, and Alex Godbey with Austin Anness losing, the Rebels won 3-2.

This was a big win for Boyle County as they look to take care of Garrard County Friday.

On Tuesday, the Rebels faced off against the Yellow Jackets on their home court. The weather was not ideal, with it being so windy they would need to prepare and change things when needed. After a long day and a hard fight, the final score was 5-2, Boyle!

They had Jacob King, Sean Guiney, Cooper Costello, and Alex Godbey playing singles. Also, they had Jacob King and Cooper Costello, Desmond Rapp and Brady Jackson, as well as Alex Godbey and Alosha McSweyn playing doubles.

Jacob King said, “We came out for our first match since spring break, and we came out hot, with the boys and girls both winning.” They were ready for the competition and weather leading them to victory. 

This week, the Boyle County Boys Tennis Team played Casey County. They put up a good fight to come out on top. Casey county is known to be a tough opponent in the tennis world. But what about the players that aren’t seeded? What do they do? Well, they play an exhibition match to prepare for their time on the courts. One exhibition player, Finn Strand, says “Well I can’t play yet. I'm excited to get a chance to show what I can do so I can get out on the courts soon”. Good luck to the tennis team as they continue to play throughout the year!    

On Saturday, the boys tennis team traveled to Paris to take on Bourbon County.

It was only a five-match competition, with three singles games and two doubles games. 

For the singles, Jacob King was playing in the number one position. Alongside him were Alex Godbey and Austin Anness, both in the two and three singles spots. 

For doubles, the number one team was Desmond Rapp and Cooper Costello. The number two team was Alosha McSweyn and Warner Wiles. 

Boyle County was able to pick up a huge win over a tough opponent after winning four matches and only dropping one. 

The next match the boys tennis team will be against the 12th Region blue bloods, Casey County. They will play Monday, March 24th.

On Tuesday, the boys tennis team took on Danville in a cross-town rivalry matchup. 

Sean Guiney was leading the way in the number one singles spot, but three games in while he was up 3-0, he had to forfeit due to injury. Next, Jacob King was up in the number two singles spot where he won a tough match in tiebreaker. Cooper Costello was the number three singles player and he lost a tough match.

Brady Jackson was the Rebels’ number four singles player, and he won his match! With the overall score being 2-2, Desmond Rapp came up in the five singles spot, but he lost a close match. To close out the singles lineup, Austin Anness also lost his match.

Now for the doubles, Jacob King and Cooper Costello lost in the number one doubles spot. In the second doubles spot, Desmond Rapp and Alosha McSweyn also took a tough loss. Finally, McClain Denny and Brady Jackson won the number three doubles match.

The final score was Boyle County 3, Danville 6. Talking about the game, a senior leader said, “I’m proud of our team’s resilience and effort tonight. We played through some unfortunate injuries and still came away with a couple wins.”

The boys tennis team will look to take on West Jessamine on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the boys tennis team traveled to Russell County to play their second match of the season. 

The first match to conclude was the one seed singles, where Sean Guiney cruised to an 8-0 victory. Next, Jacob King also got a huge victory, pushing the match score to 2-0 for the Rebels. The final singles player for Boyle County was Alex Godbey who secured the victory for Boyle County. 

Both doubles teams for Boyle County also won, making the final match score 5-0 in favor of the Rebels.

This was a big win for the Rebels as they look to take on a dominant Pulaski County team on Thursday. The boys team improves to 2-0 on the season.

On March 8th at East Jessamine, the boys' tennis team played their first match of the season. Jacob, Sean, and Alex competed in singles. All three players won. Brady and Cooper played doubles, as did Alosha and Desmond. Both Doubles teams won 5-0! With this being their first matches of the season, and the girls also doing very well, they were excited to start the season strong.

Jacob King, one of the athletes who competed last week, said, “We’ve been practicing hard every day, and it showed during the East Jessamine matches with both the girls and boys winning.” The players put a lot of work in during the postseason and it looks like it is paying off.

As the team just started their season, they still have a lot of work to do, but they started the season strong, setting them up for an amazing season!
