A Great Season for the Rebels!

Written by Caroline LeMonds

Last night on October 31st, the Rebels made their way to West Jessamine to face off against the West Jessamine Colts in the 12th Region Championship game at 7:00PM.

The Rebels have not played the Colts in any regular season game, but the Rebels walked in the gym knowing they weren't going down without a fight! At the start of the first set, it was a very close game with the Rebels and the Colts trading points. The Colts ended up going on a run and won the first set 25-17.

The environment was very loud and energetic. Despite the Colts having the home court advantage, the Rebel Rowdies really showed out for their girls. Even though the Rebels were down one set, they still fought their hardest not knowing if this would be their last game. The Colts had a great run in the second set putting them up by a significant amount, which resulted in them taking the second set 25-15.

The Rebels did not give up though! It was a hard fought battle in the third set, both teams going back and forth! The Rebels went on a great run towards the end but it was stopped by the Colts when they won the last set 25-21.

Senior Maya Smith said “Going into the game we were very excited because volleyball hasn’t made it to a region finals game since 2010 so it was a very big deal to do this senior year! We all were encouraging each other and I think everyone played their hardest and did all they could.”

Congratulations on a great season for the Rebels Volleyball team!

The Rebels roll to the Region Finals!

Written by Katherine LeMonds

Last night on October 30th, the Boyle County Rebel Volleyball team traveled to West Jessamine to take on the Pulaski County Maroons in the 12th Region Semi-finals at 6:30PM.

Prior to this game, the Rebels had taken on the Maroons once before, taking the victory in five sets. However, Pulaski County was not going to let this define them. They walked in the gym with confidence and determination, you could see the courage on their faces.

The first and second sets were a toss up on who was going to win. The two teams split the first two sets 1-1, Boyle winning the first set 25-17 and Pulaski winning the second 25-17. Unfortunately, Senior and starting setter, Gracee Teague, was out due to an injury made in the first set. The Rebels would now have to battle even harder while losing their assist leader. The third set was even closer of a matchup. Though the Rebels held a 7 point lead at 20-13, the Maroons battled back up to make the score 24-23. The Rebels then secured the final point to take the third set!

The Maroons came out fighting in the fourth set, determined to take this game to five. They used their scrappy defense to keep the ball from landing on their side, putting them up nine points, 21-12, at one point. The Rebels weren’t fond of this lead that Pulaski was forming so they rallied back with a couple aces to make the score 24-21. To no surprise, the Maroons took hold of the fourth set and finished it off, making the final score of the fourth 25-21.

The fans in the gym were roaring with excitement going into the fifth set, with both teams chanting back and forth throughout the set. The Rebels got a good 3 point lead at the beginning, 5-2. Once they established this lead, they didn’t look back. They held the Maroons to 10 points and took the fifth set 15-10 to win the game!

Senior Kendra Christopher offered words of wisdom during the game: “We have to keep our energy high and play for one another”. When asked about last night's game, Junior Ashlen Young who had to step in and set for the Rebels said, “The game went well as we were thrown a curveball when Gracee went down. But we knew we had to come together even more and everyone had to step up and just play their best.”

The Rebels will now play tonight in the finals at 7:00PM at West Jessamine against West Jessamine. Be there to support our Rebels!

Last night, on October 28th the volleyball team faced off Trinity Christian Academy in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament. Last time we played them, the game went to 5 sets, but the Rebels ultimately pulled through for the win. The game started off slow for the Rebels falling short in the first set losing 23-25.

The Rebels responded the right way in the second set coming out firing! The Rebels went on a run at the start of the set. Using that momentum, the Rebels finished the set 25-20. With the game 1-1 going into the 3rd set It could be anyone's game, but the Rebels take the 3rd set 25-17. The Rebels had the advantage going into the 4th set, so they took the game and ran with winning the game 3-1

Sophomore Lilly Turner said, “We were confident going into the game last night. We played them a couple weeks prior to last night's game and did well. I think we did really good in last night's game and we are ready for tomorrow's game against Pulaski!”

Last night on October 24th, the Boyle County Rebel Volleyball team faced off in the 45th District Championship against Garrard. This game was exhilarating and every one in the gym was racing with excitement. Going into this game, the Rebels were 27-9 and the Golden Lions were 12-17. Though the records may speak one way, the Lions have always put the Rebels to the test, taking them to five sets in the last game.

The first set went as expected by the Rebels, taking the set 25-13. The momentum in the gym was fired up by the impressive student sections for both teams. Fans were waving black and gold shakers around in the gym in unity as the room filled with cheers when Kendra Christopher had back to back to back aces! Though the Golden Lions got an early lead in the second set, some hard fought plays pushed the Rebels back to take the second set 25-20!

Boyle continued with their dominant offense the rest of the game, winning the third set big, 25-5! Senior Gracee Teague states, “Our defense started the game for us. We were very scrappy and were picking up every hit that came to us. Our great defense then set up our offense for success. With all of the fans cheering, our momentum just got higher. Even in times that we were down a little, we never let them get away from us.”

Teague was one of the four Boyle volleyball players selected into the 2024 45th Volleyball All-District team. Kendra Christopher, Charli Grubbs, and Maya Smith were selected as well. The Rebels will now move on to the 12th Region tournament next week! Go Rebels!

Junior Charli Grubbs who ended the game with 16 kills said “ I was confident in my skills and in my teammates. We played as a whole team and not just 6 individuals.” Which caused great communication to get the job done.

Last District Win For The Lady Rebels!

Written by Katherine LeMonds

Last night, on October 15th at 6:45, the Lady Rebel Volleyball team faced off on the road against Trinity Christian Academy out of Louisville in their last regular season game. This strong-willed team continued to show their fight that they had been displaying all season in five full sets.

The game started off in their favor. With the defense disorganized, and lots of energy on both sides of the ball, the Rebels took the first set 25-21. They continued with their persistent defense to set up success for their offense. Unfortunately, Trinity Christian took the second set, winning 25-20.

The Rebels responded well and they came back winning the third set 25-14. According to senior Kendra Christopher, the Rebels “Struggled maintaining momentum in the second and fourth sets” which caused them to fall behind and create that fifth set.

Fortunately, they picked themselves up and managed to get the win in the fifth set, 15-10. Kendra Christopher states, “Nothing huge happened. Our defense was very scrappy, getting up a lot of loose balls, and setting up offense for success. But, we fought back and pulled through with the win”.

The Lady Rebel Volleyball team will play again next week in their first round of the 45th District Tournament!
