Review of related literature is the annotation of available papers both published and unpublished that contain information or evidence related to the topic that a person proposes to research on. It is the use of ideas in the literature to defend your paper such as the methods used in the study. Actually, it is the important component of a research because it helps to identify the research problem and provides information that the research is already exist but need to have further studies.
The aim of any literature review is to summarize and synthesize the arguments and ideas of existing knowledge in a particular field without adding any new contributions. Being built on existing knowledge help the researcher to even turn the wheels on the topic of research. It is possible only with profound knowledge of what is wrong in the existing findings in detail to overpower them. For other researches, the literature review gives the direction to be headed for its success.
The review of related literature will help the researcher avoid doing things which have already been done before. He can focus his research on those issues which, upon rigorous analysis of the literature at hand, are still left unanswered. This will mean savings in time, money and effort.
A good researcher, therefore, has to make an exhaustive review of related literature that will help clarify the issue. It will also help the researcher determine if further research should be made or probably the problem posed may already have been answered by someone.
This CLO entailed the significance of Review of Related Literatures when conducting a research study and some of the writing guides for Chapter 1 and 2. Integrating RRLs to identify and understand the research problem helps the researcher understand clearly that the research to be undertaken would contribute something new and innovative. Thus, I learned that the quality of RRLs can be determined by evaluating if it includes appropriate breadth and depth of the area under study, clarity, rigor, consistency, and effective analysis. Also, I realized that research problems can be easily solved if researchers will systematically explore possible strategies to solve the problem or a simpler version of it while looking for patterns found in RRLs.
