Skills in organizing contribute largely in accomplishment of objectives in every organizations, whether if it is a private or public. It clarifies the working relations between engineer manager and his/her subordinates. In order to organize effectively, there are various steps that needs to be undertaken to breakdown the total job into more manageable man-sized jobs. For this reason, organizing is therefore a step towards effective management.
Organizing is a management function which refers to the "structuring of resources and activities in order to accomplish objectives in an efficient and effective manner.
The arrangement of relationship of positions within an organization is called the structure. The structure serves some very useful purposes, which are the following:
The formal organization refers to the structure that details lines of responsibilities, authority, and position. It is the "planned structure" and it " represents the deliberate attempt to establish patterned relationships among components that will meet the objectives effectively"

There are instances wherein members of an organization form a group of friendship, which is called an informal group. These are oftentimes very useful in accomplishing major tasks, but is also vulnerable to expediency, manipulation, and opportunism. Therefore, it would be best for an engineer manager to look out for any informal groups formed inside the organization and to be aware as well with the possible harm it may bring to the firm or company.
It is important for the decision makers in the organization to decide on what type of organizational structure they will adapt. Organization is classified into three types which are as follows:
Functional Organization - It is a form of departmentalization where everyone is engaged in one functional activity.
Product or Market Organization - It refers to the organization of a company by division that brings together all those involved with a certain type of product or customer.
Matrix Organization - It is an organizational structure in which each employee reports to both the functional manager and to project manager.

A committee is a formal group of persons which is formed for a specific purpose. It is said to very useful most especially in engineering and manufacturing firms. A committee is usually formed to provide the necessary line-up of expertise needed to achieve certain objectives

Management of various engineering activities always requires effective organizing. After watching the video presentation, I have learned that the organizing function can be done efficiently if managers have certain guidelines and principles. As engineer managers, it is their responsibility to decide how best to departmentalize and cluster jobs to coordinate efforts made by employees in the most effective and efficient way. Thus, it is important for engineer managers to be aware of informal groups formed within the organization. This is to ensure, that the said group won't create considerable harm to an engineering firm or organization. Lastly, it would be beneficial for an engineering organization to form a group of committees that are staffed to facilitate projects and collaboratively monitor the ongoing concerns of the employees.
