Mad About Minibeasts

Don't forget to share some of your photos or videos via Tapestry or 2Simple. We are looking forward to seeing some of your creations and your completed activities this week!

This week, we would like you to think about minibeasts. Can you name them, find them and find out to facts about them?

  • Can you go on a minibeast hunt in your garden or somewhere close to where you live? Where is the best place to find them do you think?

  • Can you name any of the minibeasts that you find ? Perhaps you could take some photos of any that you find....they may come in handy later this week!

  • Using the letters in the words caterpillar and ladybird, what other words can you make? Make a list of the words you can find?

  • Can draw or paint or maybe use chalks outside to draw a minibeast or make up your own creepy crawly? Can you add labels to your picture to name different parts of it's body . Remember to include shape and colour words.

  • This is a super book full of wonderful minbeast rhymes. Can you share it with an adult and pick out the rhyming words in each little poem ?

  • Can you choose some of the minibeasts from the book and think of a way to make a craft version? You could use playdough if you have it, or a paper plate, junk material like kitchen rolls or even straws or lollipop sticks . We would love to see what you can come up with!!

  • Can you move like a minibeast? Perhaps you could create a dance or a sequence of minibeast movements? Add music or even a costume!!

  • Can you use your own photos of a minibeast you have found or use the book to help you choose a particular creature and record the name of it. Are you then able to think of another object that may rhyme with it, such as ant and pants. Maybe you could have a go at making a rhyming sentence using your phonics, such as ants in my pants or perphaps use drawings or pictures to show rhyming pairs?

  • Have a look at the minibeast Power Point. Can you listen to the clues and work out which minibeast is hiding?

  • Perhaps you could make up your own set of 3 clues to describe your favourite kind of minibeast? Remember to use facts that you know such as where they live of how many legs they have! Perhaps you could record a video of your clues or use your phonics to write them down ?!
