Week 6-- 10/26-10/30

Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying this weekend! Here are some things to look forward to this week:

This Week's Remote Work: This week's remote schedule is posted on Google Classroom. Students will have several pages of work in their Take Home Folder that go with some assignments on their remote schedule. This week, they brought home:

  • double sided math practice pages (Day 1 remote work)

  • Prediction sheet to go along with "The Widow's Broom" read aloud (Day 1 remote work)

  • Word Study pattern words and sorting sheet (Day 1 remote work)

  • Spooky Writing Directions and writing paper (Wednesday Zoom work)

  • "Arranging Chairs" directions page, 2 pieces of grid paper, and one 12x18 construction paper (Wednesday Zoom)

  • Multiplication Coloring Pages (Day 2 remote work)

Any completed work should be returned to school on your child's next in person day. Please note that there are additional assignments linked on your child's remote work schedule and should be completed online.

Remote Learning Check In: If you haven't yet, please take a moment to complete this remote learning survey.

Halloween Costumes: Unfortunately, we have been told that students should not wear Halloween costumes to school this year. Your child is welcome to wear Halloween colors, or Halloween inspired clothing items (tshirts, etc.) to school. If your child would like, they are welcome to dress up for our Zoom session on Wednesday. Please be sure that I can see their face (no masks).

Here's a peek at what we did in third grade last week!

Math: We finished making sets of skip counting charts where students explored relationships between the multiples of numbers 2-10. Students also continued finding strategies to solve related problems.

Writing: We finished up our poetry unit by working on BioPoems. Check out our Work Gallery page for some work-in-progress pictures!

Reading: We practiced writing higher level predictions by using the magic word "because" to explain their thinking. Students thought about what they know about the main characters, what had already happened in the text, and how similar books tend to go to explain their predictions.

Social Studies: We began taking a "Train Tour" of Massachusetts and checked out some nearby cities and towns like Boston, Salem, and Lowell. Students will be filling out a map of Massachusetts as we continue our travels, thinking about how to make a key to represent each stop and how to incorporate all of the appropriate map features.

Science: Students explored the precipitation levels in different cities around our country and compared precipitation levels across months in a year. This week, they'll learn all about deserts!

That's all for now! Enjoy this week and have a safe Halloween weekend!
