Hi everyone!
I hope you're all enjoying this weekend indoors, staying warm with your families! It looks like we're going to be getting lots of snow this week! Please be sure to send your child to school with appropriate gear to keep them warm and dry in the snow during recess.
Here's some information about this coming week:
This Week's Remote Work: Please help your child to remember to put their completed remote work into their Take Home Folder to return to school. I collect these assignments, check off if they're completed, and provide feedback to students. There are several highlighted assignments on this week's remote schedule. These assignments are "must-do" assignments and should be completed during your child's remote learning days. This week, the "must-do" assignments are:
Math practice pages "94 Stickers" and "Addition Problems" (Day 1 Remote Work)
Word Study Written Sort-- 1-1-1 words vs V-e words (Day 1 Remote Work)
Social Studies-- Thinking Like a Historian Notebook entry: Primary Sources vs Secondary Sources (Day 1 Remote Work)
Lexia Core 5
Dreambox
Science: Polar Climates and Animal Adaptations (Day 2 Remote Work)
Virtual Writer's Celebration: We are finally finished with our personal narratives and the kids are excited to share them with all of you! Please join us on Zoom on Wednesday, February 3rd from 9-9:30 am! We welcome you to join your child on Zoom to listen to some 3rd grade stories in small breakout rooms. There will also be opportunities for you to leave compliments! If you haven't yet, please fill out this Google Form to let me know if you can attend!
Valentines: Students will be allowed to pass out Valentines this year as they have in previous years. Small cards and small toys (pencils, erasers, stickers, etc) are welcome, but food and candy are discouraged. I ask that Cohort B students bring their Valentines to school no later than Friday, February 5th. Cohort A students should bring their completed Valentines to school by Tuesday, February 9th. Our goal is to be sure every student gets a class set of Valentines before we leave for February break! I sent home a class list of first names this week so students can begin making their Valentines at home! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Here's a peek into what what we've been doing in school!:
Math: We learned about how to make estimates by rounding to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred. We also began exploring place value by using some digi-blocks!
Writing: Students are working hard to collect facts about the animals they chose to research. This week, we'll begin flash-drafting some chapters!
Reading: We are getting pretty good at naming the main idea and important supporting details of expository nonfiction texts! Last week, we began thinking about how we can synthesize information from two or more texts on the same topic.
Science: We explored tropical climates and learned about the biodiversity in rainforests!
Social Studies: In thinking about how historians learn about the past, students started learning about sources! This week, they'll explore the differences between primary sources and secondary sources.
That's all for now! I hope you all have a great week!
Ms. McLellan
