Hi everyone!
I hope you're all enjoying this beautiful, fall weekend! Here are some things to keep in mind this week!
Remote Learning Check-In: Now that we're in Week 5, it would be helpful for me to get a sense of how remote learning has been going for your child. When you have a chance, please complete this Remote Learning Check-In.
Remote Learning Work: I will be sending home some pages for students to complete during their remote learning days. Cohort B received them on Friday, Cohort A will receive them on Tuesday.
a double-sided planning page for a Halloween STEAM project (Day 1 work)
a word list for this week's spelling pattern along with a sorting mat to write the words (students may prefer to cut and glue the words-- either is fine)-- Day 1 work
math practice pages (Wednesday work)
This work will be in their white Take Home folder in the pocket labeled "Remote Work". All of this work should be completed during at-home learning days and returned to me for feedback. Please note that there are additional at-home assignments to be completed on the Remote Learning Schedule posted on Google Classroom.
Reminder: Students should bring their book bags with a book and reading log to school every day along with their white take-home folder. Please help your child by reminding them to keep these items in their backpacks when not in use!
Photo Permission: Please complete this Photo Permission form so I can share some of the awesome work our class has been doing on our "Work Gallery" page!
Last week in school...
Math: We began identifying the multiples of 2, 3, 5, 6, and 10. Students looked for patterns among the different multiples and started learning how to connect skip counting to multiplication equations. We ended the week by solving related problems. Check out this Math Words and Ideas video to see how we can solve related problems!
Writing: We learned about two new types of poetic devices: personification and alliteration. Students wrote some amazing poems using both devices. Ask your child to share an example with you! Check out our Work Gallery page to see the poem called "Expo Marker" that Cohort B wrote together using personification!
Reading: We started reading a new book called My Name is Maria Isabel, and we used it to practice doing some new mind work. Students practiced creating mind movies when reading descriptive passages, making strong predictions considering what has already happened in the text, and giving themselves a comprehension check. Students can give themselves a comprehension check after reading a chapter or two of their books by asking themself these three questions:
Who was in this part?
What just happened?
Is this new or does it fit with something that has already happened?
Social Studies: Students finished learning about some important landmarks in Arlington. Check out our Work Gallery page to see some interesting facts about some of the landmarks! We also finished up discussing communities. This week, students will explore some interesting towns and cities around Massachusetts and begin learning about the history of voting!
That's all for now!
