Hi everyone!
Happy last full week of school! We have a fun week ahead of us and what looks like some cooler weather. Here's what you can look forward to this week:
Menotomy Day-- 6/17: This Thursday is our Menotomy Day! Thank you so much to all who signed up to run activities on the day of and those who helped prep materials for these activities. This day wouldn't be possible without all of you! I will send out instructions to "day of" volunteers tomorrow or Tuesday so you know what to expect on Thursday. We will be spending a good amount of time outside, so it would be helpful if you could make sure your child comes to school with a water bottle and sunscreen if needed.
Classroom Book Return: Now that the end of the school year is approaching, I'm asking for all students to look through their houses to see if they still have any books they borrowed from our classroom library. I am missing a number of popular titles and would like to get as many back as possible so next year's students can enjoy them, too. If you find a book with my name written or stamped on the inner cover/pages, please send it to school with your child to return.
iReady: We will be continuing the final round of iReady assessments tomorrow-Wednesday. Please help your child to remember to charge their device at home and bring it to school with them on these days.
That's all for this week! Keep reading for some learning updates:
Math: We're well into our second multiplication and division unit of the year. We've been working hard to use facts we know to help us solve trickier facts. We also began solving bigger multiplication problems with facts of ten. For example, we know that we can use 7x3 to help us solve 7x30. Keep on practicing those multiplication facts at home!
Writing: We are officially finished with our opinion writing unit and we've been spending time putting the finishing touches on published speeches. We'll be dedicating the rest of our writing time to finishing up our social studies and science units!
Reading: We also finished up our character studies unit! This week, students will meet with their book clubs and finish up their books. They will also complete this final round of iReady!
Social Studies: We began our final unit which is all about the Road to the Revolution. We learned about The French and Indian War, "No Taxation Without Representation",The Boston Tea Party, The Boston Massacre, and what daily life was like for the colonists. I'm so excited for the students to put their learning on display during Menotomy Day!
Science: Students have been having a lot of fun playing with magnets lately! We've learned about different forces at work when we manipulate magnets certain ways. This week, we'll continue our exploration on forces and create some fun flying contraptions!
That's all for now!Ms. McLellan
