Hi everyone,
I hope you all have been enjoying this weekend! It was so nice to spend a Saturday out in sunny, 75 degree weather! Hopefully there is more to come soon :).
Here are some things to keep in mind this week:
Snack and Water Bottle: Please try to help your child pack a nut-free snack and a reusable water bottle each day. Drinking from water fountains is off limits this year but students are welcome to refill their bottles as needed.
P.E. on Mondays: Please remind your child that we will have PE every Monday so they should dress accordingly!
Books: Please continue to keep an eye out for books that belong to our classroom! We are missing a number of popular titles including books from the Bad Guys series and Harry Potter. You'll know that they belong to our library if my name is stamped on the inside cover/first page or if there is a "Property of Dallin" sticker on the inside cover.
April Vacation-- Next Week 4/19-4/23-- NO SCHOOL!
Here's a peek into the learning we've been doing lately:
Math: We finished up our mini-unit on area and perimeter on Friday. In this unit, students learned how to find the area of a rectangle and irregular shapes as well as how to find the perimeter of any 2D shape. We will continue to review these skills for the remainder of the year. Tomorrow, we're going to begin learning about fractions!
Reading: We began reading a new book called Because of Winn Dixie and have started getting to know the main character, Opal. Students have been practicing asking themselves important questions to get to know the characters in their own books such as:
What types of things does this character say?
How does this character act?
What does this character do again and again?
What theory can I come up with about this character? (I think ________ is the type of person who ___________ because...)
Writing: We finished up our nonfiction animal writing unit! Over the past two weeks, students have been working so hard to add proper punctuation and capital letters, clear up confusion for their readers, and incorporate meaningful text features. It's so fun to see their excitement when they get to see their published piece printed and bound! Stay tuned for information about how we will share these finished pieces with you! Up next: opinion writing!
Science: Students have been studying different examples of extreme weather and learning about how to reduce the effects of them. They even got to play a new game called Don't Flood the Fidgits which somewhat resembles Minecraft. Ask your child to show you how to play!
That's all for now! Have a great week!
