Hi everyone,
I hope you all are enjoying this chilly weekend! It has been so nice getting to finally meet you all during conferences this week. I'm looking forward to seeing some more families this Wednesday!
Here are some things to look forward to this week:
This Week's Remote Work: Please help your child to remember to put their completed remote work into their Take Home Folder to return to school. I collect these assignments, check off if they're completed, and provide feedback to students using them. There are several highlighted assignments on this week's remote schedule. These assignments are "must-do" assignments and should be completed during your child's remote learning days. This week, the "must-do" assignments are:
Math practice pages-- "How Many More to 100" and "Stickers, Bottles, and Marbles" (Day 1 Remote Work)
Word Study sort on Jamboard -- submit through Google Classroom (Day 1 Remote Work)
Social Studies-- map of Massachusetts Scavenger Hunt (Day 1 Remote Work)
Math practice pages-- "Problems for Close to 100" and "Sums that Equal 100" (Day 2 Remote Work)
Lexia Core 5 (Day 2 Remote Work)
Science-- Climate videos and color map (Day 2 Remote Work)
Conferences: If you have scheduled a conference for this week, please confirm the time of our meeting on this Sign Up Genius page. Follow this Zoom link right at your meeting's start time:

Next Week: There will be no school on Monday, January 18th. To help balance out the in-person days that Cohort A has missed this school year due to holidays, Cohort A will attend school on Tuesday, January 19th AND Friday, January 22nd. Cohort B will follow the remote schedule on Tuesday, January 19th AND Friday, January 22nd. Please let me know if you have any questions about this change.
Here's a peek into what we've been working on in third grade:
Writing: Students are finishing up the publishing stage with their personal narratives! Stay tuned for an announcement about how families can celebrate our finished writing unit with us!
Reading: We began our next new reading unit-- Reading to Learn! Students learned all about nonfiction text features and got to explore the text features using dozens of non-fiction books from our class library. This week, they'll begin learning about how to "Rev Up Your Mind" before reading nonfiction!
Math: We began using number lines to help us solve addition and subtraction problems. Students were introduced to two strategies to use when adding: Adding by Place and Adding One Number in Parts. I have linked Math Words and Ideas videos for both strategies if you are interested in learning more. We also learned how to play Close to 100! This game will be on this week's remote schedule. Ask your child to teach you how to play!
Social Studies: We learned about the natural landforms and resources in Arlington, and did some review on important map features.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Ms. McLellan
