Hi everyone,
One more week until February break! It looks like we'll be getting some more snow this week. Students have been loving their time out in the snow during recess. Please be sure to send your child with boots, snow pants, and any other warm winter gear this week.
We have a lot going on this week. Please take a moment to read our announcements below:
This Week's Remote Work: Please help your child to remember to put their completed remote work into their Take Home Folder to return to school. I collect these assignments, check off if they're completed, and provide feedback to students. There are several highlighted assignments on this week's remote schedule. These assignments are "must-do" assignments and should be completed during your child's remote learning days. This week, the "must-do" assignments are:
Math practice pages "More Rounding and Solving Addition Problems" (Day 1 Remote Work)
Word Study Written Sort-- Silent e Spelling Rule (Day 1 Remote Work)
Social Studies-- Thinking Like a Historian Notebook entry: Multiple Sources and Perspective (Day 1 Remote Work)
Independent Reading
Lexia Core 5
Dreambox
Virtual Writer's Celebration: Our rescheduled Writer's Celebration is on! Please join us on Zoom on Wednesday, February 10th from 9-9:30 am! We welcome you to join your child on Zoom or log in with this link (passcode: pineapples) to listen to some 3rd grade stories in small breakout rooms. There will also be opportunities for you to leave compliments! If you haven't yet, please fill out this Google Form to let me know if you can attend!
Valentines: Students will be allowed to pass out Valentines this year as they have in previous years. Small cards and small toys (pencils, erasers, stickers, etc) are welcome, but food and candy are discouraged. Thank you Cohort B families for already sending in your child's valentines. I ask that Cohort A students should bring their completed Valentines to school by Tuesday, February 9th. Our goal is to be sure every student gets a class set of Valentines before we leave for February break! I sent home a class list of first names this week so students can begin making their Valentines at home. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Spirit Week: This week, our whole school will be participating in Spirit Week! Each day will have a different theme to dress up to. Here is a link to the schedule of themes! Monday is pajama day!
Here is a peek into what we've been working on in school:
Math: We have been adding using bigger three digit numbers. Students learned how to play a new game, Capture on the 300. Click here to play at home!
Writing: After spending some time collecting interesting facts about their chosen animals, students are moving on to structuring their chapters. We learned about how to write a paragraph using the hamburger model. The top bun represents the topic sentence/main idea, the lettuce, tomatoes, and beef represent 3 supporting facts/details, and the bottom bun represents the closing sentence. We will be using hamburger organizers to help us draft our information books.
Science: Students explored the differences between tropical and polar climates. They also thought about what adaptations animals who live in polar climates would need to survive.
Social Studies: We learned about the differences between fact and opinion and thought about how historians need to consider these differences when learning about the past.
I hope you all have a great week!
Ms. McLellan
