Hello 3M families,
We are finally ready to begin our year together! I’m so excited to be back teaching in person and I hope your kids are looking forward to returning as well. Here is a ton of information about our first week together. Take your time reading and reach out with any questions or for clarification!
Google Classroom:
Follow this link for directions to add your child to our Google Classroom. You should have already received instructions to reset your child's Spy Ponder account password. Please be sure to do this before signing up for our Google Classroom! If you have trouble with this, please let me know!
Parent Survey:
If you haven’t already, please take a moment to complete this Parent Survey to help me learn how I can best support your child. Only one survey needs to be completed per child!
At-Home Learning Schedule Notes:
I have posted a schedule for students to follow during their independent at-home learning days on our class website and on Google Classroom. Here are some things to note about this schedule:
Cohort B will follow the Day 1 schedule on Monday and the Day 2 schedule Tuesday.
Cohort A will follow the Day 1 schedule on Thursday and the Day 2 schedule on Friday.
All students will be learning from home on Wednesday, and I will post the Wednesday schedule to Google Classroom on Tuesday. This day will look different from independent remote learning because our class will be able to meet live!
All links to Zoom meetings, videos, and activities are linked right on the schedule.
There is no need to “submit” any work on Google Classroom this week. We are starting slow and using this week to adjust to this schedule and to familiarize students with a new routine. They may have more downtime during this week than they will in future weeks-- that’s okay!
Please remind your child to do their best to complete each activity on the schedule. If you find them getting overly frustrated with an assignment, skip it and please let me know. This is new territory for everyone, and I appreciate feedback so I can help to make home learning manageable for everyone.
At-Home Learning Times:
An "attendance check" for remote learners is still in the works. I will let you know ASAP when I hear what the plan is! For now, students can begin to get settled at their work space at 8:15 before diving into their daily schedule.
Our class will have P.E. this term with Ms. Plansky on both of your child’s independent remote days. They will log into a Zoom meeting from 10:40-11:20. This Zoom link and info is available on the remote learning schedule.
Remote learning on Wednesdays will begin at 8:15 AM and finish at 1 pm.
In Person Learning Times:
In person school days begin at 8:10. By now, you should have received arrival and dismissal instructions from Mr. Dingman!
Students will be leaving Dallin on in-person days at 1:45. They will continue learning at home or in their after-school program with an assigned activity until 2:30. Please go over a dismissal plan with your child and email me to let me know what it is! Please also note that there is no TASC this week!
Snack, Lunch, and Water Bottles:
Please send your child to school with a nut free snack AND a reusable water bottle daily (drinking from the bubbler is off limits this year, but they can refill if needed). For lunchtime, your child may either bring in a nut-free lunch or order a school lunch. We will eat lunch in our classroom together and then students will go outside for recess.
Masks:
We have several scheduled mask breaks during the day. These breaks will take place on the field, blacktop, or safely in our classroom. Students should come to school wearing a mask they feel comfortable in. I will provide students with a lanyard to attach to their mask so they don’t need to put them down on any surface during mask breaks. If you notice your child wearing their lanyard at dismissal, please try to help them remember to wear it back to school the next day! All students should also bring at least one back-up mask in a ziplock baggie labeled with their name. I will have disposable masks on hand, just in case.
Supplies:
Please have your child bring the requested supplies on the first day labeled with their name or initials. They should also bring their learning device to school each day (we will not use devices in person this week, but it will be good to start building this habit).
Other things to note:
Our classroom has been pretty chilly lately, so I strongly encourage kids to dress in layers during these early fall days!
Please note that while your child may be learning at home, I will be in school teaching another cohort. I may not be able to respond to emails or comments during the school day, but will do my best to address them during prep times and after school.
Phew! Thanks for taking the time to go through all of this information. Again, thank you so much for your patience and flexibility during this most-crazy back-to-school time. We’re all in this together this year!
Best,
Ms. McLellan
