Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying this weekend! Here are some things to look forward to this week!

This Week's Remote Work: Please help your child to remember to put their completed remote work into their Take Home Folder to return to school. I collect these assignments, check off if they're completed, and provide feedback to students using them. This week, students will bring home:

  • "Adding 10's and 100's" and "Pictographs" math practice pages (Day 1 Remote Work)

  • Multiplication Practice Packet (Day 1 and Day 2 Remote Work)

  • Word Study pattern words & Snowball Spelling/ Story Spelling (Day 2 Remote Work)

  • Editing Checklist (Wednesday Zoom)

  • Solving Problems with Bar Graphs (Wednesday Zoom)

  • Personal Narrative Drafts

Next Week's Zoom Work (12/21-12/23): This week, your child will also be taking home a packet of work to complete during our completely virtual week next week. This packet will include:

  • Build a Snowman clock (Monday, 12/21 Zoom)

  • Science-- Design a Creature (Tuesday 12/22 Zoom)

  • Personal Narrative Draft

  • Hot Chocolate Stand Trifold (Tuesday, 12/22 Zoom)

  • December Fun Packet

  • A special gift from me!

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences will begin the first week of January through Zoom. I will send out a Sign-Up Genius on Friday after school so you can select a time slot!

Here's a peek into what we did in school last week!

Math: We began a new unit all about Data Collection and Graphing. We worked on representing data on bar graphs and on pictographs. We also practiced writing about the information we learned from different types of graphs by using sentence starters like "I noticed that...", "The category with the most/least data...", and "This data shows me...".

Writing: Students have been doing a fantastic job writing their personal narratives bit-by-bit. Last week, we explored how to accurately punctuate dialogue and we began writing really great endings for our stories. This week, we're going to begin editing and next week, we'll move onto publishing!

Social Studies: We began a new unit focused on mapping and students explored map features and the three different types of maps: physical, political, and resource maps. They also began building their own maps using different tools on Google Slides.

Science: We learned about two different types of traits: Inherited traits and Acquired traits. Ask your child to tell you about the difference!

iReady: We are done with iReady-- woohoo! I was really impressed with how everyone showed perseverance when questions got hard. Conferences will be held in early January so we can talk about how your child performed on these assessments then!

That's all for now! Have a great day!
