Hi everyone!
I hope you're all enjoying this rainy day. We finally made it to our last (hopefully) week of remote learning! I know I'm so excited to have all of my students all together, and I hope your children are starting to get excited, too! Here are some things to note this week!
Thursday, 4/1 and Friday, 4/2-- NO SCHOOL & NO REMOTE LEARNING
Snack and Water Bottles: Please be sure to send your child to school with a reusable water bottle every day. Students cannot drink from bubblers this year! Also, please help your child to remember to pack a nut-free snack every day :).
Recorders: Please help your child find their recorder they brought home earlier this year and return it to school. They will be learning to play them in music beginning April 5th.
Progress Reports: You will be able to access your child's Term 2 Progress Report on PowerSchool beginning Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress this term!
This Week's Remote Work-- COHORT B ONLY: Please help your child to remember to put their completed remote work into their Take Home Folder to return to school. Here are this week's "must do" assignments:
Math practice pages: "Making Shapes" and "Building Shapes" (Day 1 Remote Work)
Writing: Begin/continue typing part of animal book (Day 1 Remote Work)
Science: activity choice (Day 2 Remote Work)
Dreambox
Lexia Core 5
Independent Reading
Next Week's Return to School: I will send out more information later this week about information regarding the full return to school on April 5th!
Lately in third grade...
Math: We began a new unit focused on measurement and area/perimeter. Last week students learned about the tools we use to measure in the US Standard System and the tools used to measure in the Metric System. Students found benchmark objects for a centimeter, an inch, a foot, a yard, and a meter. We also began practicing finding the perimeter of different 2D objects. Students had to get creative when it came time to find the perimeter of a circle!
Writing: Many students have begun editing their rough drafts of their animal writing and are moving on to typing their final draft! Students will now be thinking about how to properly paragraph and punctuate their writing. They will also consider which text features will help to bring their writing to life!
Reading: We finished up our reading to learn unit! Students took everything they know about reading nonfiction and applied it to a collection of texts about roller coasters. At this point, students should be able to independently summarize expository and narrative nonfiction, synthesize information from multiple texts about the same topic, and identify bigger themes within nonfiction texts.
Social Studies: We have begun thinking about the Wampanoag tribe and what their daily lives were like back in the 1600s. Students have been exploring the types of food they ate, jobs they performed, and homes they lived in during the different seasons. We will launch into a deeper research project soon!
That's all for now. More to come later this week!
