Week 31: 5/10-5/14

Hi everyone,

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful mothers! I hope your day will be filled with fun, relaxation, and some family time :).

Here are some weekly updates:

Thank you!: I had the best Teacher Appreciation Week last week because of all of the incredibly thoughtful kids and families in our class. I received many thoughtful cards, drawings, poems, yummy treats, and gifts throughout the week which made me feel so special! Thank you all for always making me feel so appreciated and for all of your continued support this year. I'm lucky to have incredible families like yours during such a crazy year!

Dallin Book Fair: I apologize for doing this so late, but I didn't realize the book fair was already going on! A few families have asked me to share a wishlist of books that we'd like to add to our classroom library. Today (May 9th) is the last day of the Dallin Book Fair, but if you'd like to donate a book, you can visit our wish list by clicking here!

MCAS: Third graders will be taking ELA MCAS next Tuesday, May 18th. While we will spend time learning good test-taking strategies and reviewing previous years' assessments, it's important to remember that this school-year is unlike any other. Because of this, we have received messages from our school and district administration to keep our focus on our curriculum and keeping social emotional learning at the forefront instead of "teaching to the test". If you would like to support MCAS prep at home, there are some practice tests available on the Pearson site linked here. Otherwise, please try to reinforce the message that will be shared in school that students should try their best on MCAS but not let it consume them or stress them out. If you'd like to chat more about this, please feel free to reach out!

Math Fraction Practice: We learned a new game last week to practice recognizing equivalent fractions called "Fraction Cookie". If you're looking for ways to support learning about fractions at home, ask your child to teach you how to play this game and play with them!

I'll be back next week with some learning updates! Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!
