Diversity

Curriculum Intent

At Trinity, we strive to provide an exceptional and innovative education in diversity, which enables our pupils to be proud of their individual identities. By enhancing children’s understanding of historical and current context, we develop a culture of embracing and celebrating our differences and similarities.

Sequencing and Progression

The diversity curriculum allows children to build on their understanding of the world around them as they progress from EYFS to Year 6. Key concepts such as racism, diversity, heritage, ethnicity and identity are revisited and consolidated throughout each year and across the year groups. Children build up a bank of knowledge about how diversity in the past and present impacts their own lives, their community and the wider world.

What does diversity look like at Trinity?

Through our diversity lessons, we encourage pupils to develop empathy and to be able to stand for what is right; address what is wrong; celebrate what makes them unique and value the things that we hold in common. Our diversity curriculum is designed to prepare our pupils to be confident, resilient and conscious global citizens who are passionate about making the world a better place for all.

Early Years

In the Early Years, children begin to recognise how they are similar and how they are different to their friends. They explore what makes them special and unique and learn to cherish their own individual identities. Children learn to appreciate themselves and to be proud of where they come from, the languages they speak and the traditions they have. Children discover that our differences are something to value and celebrate!

Key Stage One

From Key Stage One , the curriculum is divided into five themes of Family and Relationships, Health and Wellbeing, Safety, Citizenship and Economic Wellbeing, with the Safety and the Changing Body being introduced from Key Stage 1. Each of the themes have an important role to play in preparing our pupils for the future!  The children will meet these themes over the course of the year and their knowledge and understanding is developed as the children move through school, allowing them to become positive, global citizens of the 21st century who are reflective of the world around them and want to make the world a better place for all!  Our curriculum has been created to reflect the needs of our pupils, our community and is tailored to meet specific needs.

Key Stage Two

In Key Stage 2, children continue to develop their oracy skills and confidence in speaking through PSHE. The lessons are designed to be pupil-led and discussion based. Children are encouraged to listen, evaluate and respond as well as challenge their peers in speaking and listening activities such as class debates. As a whole school, PSHE, personal development and children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We want our students to be big hearted, discover what’s possible and become positive citizens in our ever changing society. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.
