This section assists Bentley staff who process physical and born-digital collection materials using specific tools, systems, policies, and workflows. Processors' tasks include, but are not limited to:
Appraising, arranging, and describing archival materials in all formats.
Creating finding aids and MARC records.
Performing various collections management tasks.
Creating and maintaining all processing documentation, including processing plans and separation records.
This section has been written for processors that already have a basic knowledge of archival practice, theory, and terminology. It also uses Society of American Archivists' (SAA)-accepted terminology from the the Dictionary of Archives Terminology website (public link).
Processing staff are expected to read and familiarize themselves with this portion of the Archival Curation Manual, as well as the Collections Management section. Questions, comments, and suggestions should be directed to the Assistant Director for Collections Management.
