Accessions with Removable Media
Overview:
Accessioning or processing archivists identify accessions with removable media. Ideally, this happens at the point of accession; it may also happen during processing.
Accessioning or processing archivists fill out Accessions with Removable Media form. If the accession only contains removable media, they can use the Removable Media Dropbox located in the processing room, being sure to indicate which media belong to which accessions (e.g., by printing out an accession record or writing the Accession ID on a Post-It note). Otherwise, leave removable media where you found them in the box (so as not to disturb original order) and store the box, as per the usual, at an unprocessed location in the stacks. Locations should be updated in ArchivesSpace as needed.
The digital archivist populates the Born-Digital Projects board "Removeable Media Prep (RMW, Ripstation)" list, as appropriate, and sets priority. Removable media that is being processed or needs to be returned to the donor get the highest priority.
Removable media tech transfers content off of media, starting with the highest priority, following the Removable Media Workstations or Using the RipStations instructions, as appropriate.
The digital archivist reviews the removable media tech’s work and transfers content to the digital backlog.
The digital archivist notifies accessioning or processing archivists when content has been transferred to backlog.
