The Students' Union and College celebrates International Women's day 2024!
International Women's Day - which takes place every year on 8th March - happened recently. To understand a bit more about what International Women's Day means to students, there is a video below from the Students' Union's Women's Officer, Bianca, and the This Girl Can Sport Ambassador, Rahel.
Health & Well-Being Event
On Thursday 14th March the Sport Enrichment, Student Central and Students' Union teams hosted a Health & Well-Being Event in Upper Student Central. We were so happy with the students who got stuck in, there was a free smoothie bike where students could make their own smoothies, general health checks and CPR training, well-being activities and active challenges. There was also some visitors from different organisations talking to students.
We are hoping to run this event again in the future, so keep an eye out!
If you have any feedback from the event or want to get involved in helping out in the future, contact studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk
Rahel and Bianca (from the above video) also hosted their own stall where they handed out and advertised the free period products available in College, as well as asking students to fill out a survey Rahel had created to find out more about female students' engagement in sporting activities.
It would be really appreciated (if you self-identify as female) if you could fill out this short survey. It can be found by clicking below...

We will continue hosting our Well-Being Cafès, offering a space for students to gather, meet, make new friends and do some mindful craft activities and games. These are open to everyone, and can even just be used if you want a quieter place to sit and eat your lunch and chat.
These will be ran by our wonderful Students' Union Vice President, Sharon. She had this to say about the Cafès:
"I got involved in the Students' Union to make a difference .
The Well-Being Cafès are good for students from different walks of life to get together and relax. Students can attend, to put their classes to one side, do something different over lunchtime and meet new people."
They will be every Wednesday 1:30-2:30pm, in the room at the LRC at City campus.
We are currently planning sessions at Hillsborough campus, please email us at studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk if you are interested in this.
Favour and Leo (our Black Students' Officer and SU President) have set up a Book Club in collaboration with the College libraries.
This will be a place where students can select books to read as a group, and then come together to discuss the book. It will be a great place to socialise, talk about books you have been reading and exchange book recommendations.
This will start on Thursday 1st February and run once a month in the Study Room in the City LRC.
We are looking at expanding this to other campuses - let us know if you want to see it at your campus by emailing studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk
After the success of last year's British Sign Language Basics sessions, they are back again.
Taught by a student, they will take place every Monday 12:30-1pm in room C106 at Hillsborough campus.
This is a great opportunity to have so fun, learn something new and make friends - all welcome!
The Students' Union has set up a Dungeons & Dragons campaign! The club is led by students, and we have one at both Hillsborough and City Campuses. Students are welcome to join whether they have played before or not!
City Campus:
Every other Monday 12-1pm (starting on 25th March) in room in the LRC (library)
Hillsborough Campus:
Every other Thursday 1-2pm in room E123.
We are also in need of a Dungeon Master to run the campaign at Hillsborough - unfortunately it can't run properly until we have one - if you are interested, please email studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk
Email us if you want more information or have questions at studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk or come and talk to us in the Students' Union Office!

Is there an issue facing students that you want to be taken to a national stage?
The Students' Union is a part of the National Union of Students (NUS) who represent hundreds of thousands of students across the country. They campaign and lobby to improve student experience, in relation to funding, support, accessibility, transport and much more!
NUS also run a National Conference every year where representatives from Students' Union's nationwide meet to discuss the key issues facing students that they want NUS as a collective to fight for. Four of the college's Students' Union Officers, including our SU President, Leo, will be attending the Conference in April.
Is there an issue that you think is facing students that you want the Officers to take to this year's NUS National Conference? If yes, please share it with our President at leo.wilcox@sheffcol.ac.uk
