Hi everybody! I hope you're all doing well and are looking forward to the Easter break! It's been an extremely busy month, and I'm excited to update you on what's been happening in March.
There has been a huge Cultural Celebration taking place for the second Students' Union campaign of the year, with a range of stalls on offer for you all involving cultural snacks from around the world, the Grab and Go creating their own cultural menu, all being fresh dishes created by the catering students at City Campus. Plus, packed with a variety of activities such as a cultural quiz, games, a photobooth and the opportunity to come in wearing your cultural clothing to be entered into our prize draw!
There was also National Careers Week from the 2nd-6th March, an impactful conversation with Jamie Henderson from the South Yorkshire Police and students studying Public Services within the college, an Eid celebration ran by the Muslim Girls Society and a Student Voice Conference at Hillsborough Campus.
Although this month has definitely been one of the busiest, we're delighted with how everything has taken place, and there is so much more to come!
10th-27th March
This March, the Students' Union team, teams within the college and student volunteers have came together to make this incredible campaign come to life. Events have taken place at Peaks, City, Pennine Five and Fir Vale campus, taking place at Hillsborough and Advanced Technology Centre alongside Fir Vale's on the week leading up to half term. Grab and Go provided students with a delicious food menu with cultural foods from all around the world, ranging from Spanish to Nigerian, Egyptian, Filipino and Pakistani.
The Cultures Connect campaign days have been really successful so far. It has been amazing to talk to many different students about their cultures and learn more about them. From students sharing snacks from their culture to pointing out their flag to their friends, it has been so lovely to watch, and we hope that it has made each person here at the college feel included and valued. There is a place for everyone to be celebrated at The Sheffield College, and we hope that the Cultures Connect campaign has shown students this.
We thank everybody who has engaged, supported and shown enthusiasm through these last few weeks, because without you, this campaign wouldn't have been possible.

⟢ Eid Celebration Event ⟢
23rd March
Held on the 23rd March at City Campus was the exciting Eid event, planned by the Muslim Girls' Society ran by the Students' Union. The Marketing team worked with these students to make this event possible, running from 11am-1pm in the canteen space.
Hot food was provided throughout lunchtime including fried chicken and onion bhajis which students and staff thoroughly enjoyed, with customised Eid cupcakes provided, a range of beautiful decorations to welcome those to the event, henna drawing which several students queued to participate in and games such as jenga, connect four and dominoes. There was also cultural clothing worn amongst many students who attended.
On the 6th March, students at City who are studying Public Services went to the Innovation Suite to meet Jamie Henderson, Chief Superintendent of the South Yorkshire Police. This led into impactful conversations amongst himself and the students, after Jamie explaining his background and his journey throughout the 25 years of his role.
Students and myself as SU President who attended felt as though we learnt so much about the realities of crime and what the South Yorkshire Police are already doing to reduce it and maintain safety within our environment.
Fantastic job opportunities in the college Students' Union
Are you leaving college this summer and looking for a job? Do you want to help make a real impact on Students' college experiences? Why not consider applying to work for the college Students' Union?!
As you may already be aware, the college Students' Union is ran by a team of Student volunteers called 'SU Officers'. This team is led by two staff members who are recent college leavers, a President and Deputy President. These are full-time paid roles for 1 year, and working for the Students' Union will help develop lots of key skills for future career prospects, from experience creating promotional materials, to running activities and events, to sitting in board meetings helping to make sure student voice is represented in college decision making.
The two roles are designed to be fun and varied, to allow the students to learn on the job, and are all about improving student experience. We provide lots of training and support to help you make the adjustment from student to staff member. You can watch the two videos below to get an idea of a 'day in the life' of the roles.
You can find out more information by getting in contact with studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk and you can nominate yourself by applying via the college vacancies page on the website, linked below. The deadline for applications is 22nd April!
