Hi everyone, welcome to October's newsletter! I hope you're all looking forward to half term and enjoy the break. I'd like to apologise in regards to the September Newsletter which wasn't sent out, so massive apologies for this, it was due to an email distribution error so hopefully we can get as much information into October to make up for that.
For any of you who have not Bella yet the SU Deputy President, I have popped in a picture of her, so if you see her around campus at any time please give her a big hello and a welcome! She's doing a fantastic job as a representative of the Students Union and I can't wait to watch her grow in this role.
As this is my final year as your SU President, I'm really looking forward to what this year will continue to bring. I'm hoping that myself and Bella can make some impactful changes and some great memories.
Bella SU Deputy President
Georgia SU President

Starting 3rd November
Working to make Mental Health Support more tailored to our students
Starting in November, the mental health campaign will launch with its first webinar on our website for all students to have access to and engage with, a range of information included around mental health support. As the month progresses, this will follow up with 2 more webinars all highlighting topics that are relevant and important, in order to educate you on the support that is available. Mental health is a prevalent issue that effects lots of people, and the SU team who are pushing to create these webinars have shared life experiences with mental health and have experienced the impacts of it themselves.
Due to this, we want to find out what support students want and how actions can be taken to ensure that this support is being received. We also want to signpost students to the support that is available and continue ongoing work to get support that is more frequent and specific to students needs.
Please look out for this exciting campaign after half term which will provide the opportunity for you to share your thoughts and ideas for future webinars that we can include and create, all surrounding mental health, as we want to open the conversation around this subject that students may feel apprehensive to talk about. and how this can be that through giving everybody an equal chance to progress and succeed.
SU Officer Elections
This month the Students Union have been running the election for the officer roles, which are voluntary within the SU team that students such as yourselves have the opportunity to be involved in. There has been amazing engagement and enthusiasm shown throughout the election, so a big thank you to all of the students who have put themselves forward to these roles and have already shown commitment to advocating on behalf of the Students Union, and thank you all for engaging and voting!
There are manifestos written by those elected that display their goals and aims around what they would want to achieve within the role.

ITV News Visit at the Sheffield College
We were visited by ITV news. They spent some time talking to me, the SU Deputy President and a group of 6 students about our opinions on the politics within the UK right now. We discussed various topics such as our opinions on the prime minister, what we thought about the Labour Conference and how we would intend to vote in an election. The students had so many insightful views to share and represented the college really well. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved and our clips were shared on national news that night.
It's Black History Month!
