Your Students' Union's LGBT+ Officer, Freyjah, is now an elected Youth Councillor!
The Students' Union LGBT+ Officer, Freyjah, ran for the role of Youth Councillor for Sheffield Central recently. These roles are elected by young people from the local area, and over 12,000 votes were cast from across Sheffield in this set of Youth Councillor elections.
On Thursday 22nd February, Freyjah attended the results night at the Platinum Suite at Sheffield United Football Club, where it was announced that they are now an elected Youth Councillor!
We are so proud of Freyjah, and so excited to see the work that they will be undertaking in this role.

"I got involved in the Students' Union to make a difference .
The Well-Being Cafès are good for students from different walks of life to get together and relax. Students can attend, to put their classes to one side, do something different over lunchtime and meet new people."

This will start on Thursday 1st February and run once a month in the Study Room in the City LRC.
We are looking at expanding this to other campuses - let us know if you want to see it at your campus by emailing studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk

Highlights from Student Surveys - and a massive 'thank you' for taking part!
"Earlier this term the student voice term two surveys took place in College, which focused on the quality of students' on programme experience. The question themes were on teaching and learning, support services and facilities, student voice, support, college values and next steps and progression. Students on further education young people and adult provision and students on higher education courses at the College were asked to take part in this survey. This is a key piece of student voice activity that ensures students' voices and feedback are heard and used as part of College quality assurance and improvement processes.
Headline results -
Nearly 5000 students completed this survey
For 16-18 year old students the highest scoring questions were on the College being a welcoming place for people of all backgrounds (98% agreed with this statement), that expected standards of attendance are clear (97% agreed) and that students feel safe when learning online (97% agreed)
For adult learners the highest scoring questions were again on the College being a welcoming place (98% agreed) and that expected standards for attendance were clear (98%). Adult learners also strongly agreed with feeling safe whilst on College campuses (98% agreed).
For Higher Education level learners there were some high scores for questions on teaching and learning (91% agreed), academic support (92%) and the range of learning opportunities available in College (90%)
Some of the areas students felt could be improved on were the expectation that 16-18 year old students should be taking part in enrichment activities (only 68% agreed with this statement), getting regular feedback to help students' to improve (83%) and awareness of mental health support available with 11% agreeing this could be better.
Next steps with this student feedback -
All survey feedback and results have been reviewed and considered by curriculum managers
A full survey results report has been presented to the College Executive Team and the Board of Governors
Curriculum areas are expected to cerate a student voice action plan to agree next steps to act on this feedback
When changes and improvements have been made as a result of student feedback in surveys this will be shared back with you as part of the 'You Said, We Did' campaign which will be shared with you on campus TV screens, in this newsletter and on posters around College.
Thank you for taking part in this key student voice activity!"
