Empowering Mental Health Conversations and Support
Webinars to navigate Mental Wellbeing together
Within the Students’ Union, we recognise that mental health is a big issue within both college and the world. We know that many of our students have experienced mental health issues and, having both just been students, we understand how these problems can impact your time at college. The college already has some mental health support implemented for students, so we want to make sure that students know where to find this. We also want to make sure that the support offered is helpful and works for the students using it.
Big changes take time but the SU is currently campaigning to find out what support you would like to see here at The Sheffield College. This is why it is crucial that we receive feedback on these webinars.
Was this useful? Was it relivant? Were the speakers clear?
Is there anything you'd like to see differently/included in the next webinar?
What topics would you like to see next?
All of this is why we have created a series of webinars on different mental health topics which provide information and advice about support services you can access. You can find these below.
Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.
In this first webinar, Bella the SU Deputy President introduces Seasonal Affective Disorder, describes its impacts, effects and resources you can access to support your wellbeing such as apps you can download and external organisations to the college who provide a range of relevant support.
There are also more relevant contacts listed at the end of this video who are there for you if you are struggling with your mental health.
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Georgia, the President for the SU goes through the impact of Generalised Anxiety Disorder, what this means to her and the relevant resources that you can find within college that you can also use outside of college to support you. This webinar includes a Circle of Control Activity specific to supporting you with your anxiety, all in order to help with maintaining a positive mindset.
Tips for making social media a good place for your mind
Social media is a huge part of many people's lives now and although it is great, sometimes it can be having a negative impact on your mental health.
In this video, Bella goes through 5 quick tips that you can use to help make your social media a good place for your mind.
You asked and we listened! After receiving feedback that our first two webinars were too long, we decided to make this one a much shorter video. We hope that doing this will make the videos even more useful for our students.
For the first SU campaign of the year, the SU have created three webinars tailored to you, the students around mental health support. These webinars provide resources that will enable you to access the relevant support as well as information into the symptoms, triggers, preventative methods and positive activities to support your wellbeing linking to each of these important topics.
In order to make future webinars, it is important that we hear your thoughts and opinions so that we can tailor these to your wants and needs.
Please contact studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk with any ideas or feedback you may have. Thank you for watching!
