Introducing the Students' Union 's Charity of the Year - St Lukes' Hospice!
The Students' Union have chosen their charity of the year and looking forward to volunteering with and fundraising for them in the upcoming months. The Students' Union President, Leo, had this to say...
"I'm delighted to tell you all that our charity of the year is St Lukes' Hospice and we are so excited to be partnering with them. Recently they met with our team of Students' Union Officers and discussed some brilliant opportunities that all of you can engage with too!"
St Lukes' is a hospice based in Sheffield, offering specialist palliative (end of life) care.
"We care for people aged 18 and above throughout Sheffield who have terminal illnesses. We aim to control their symptoms, alleviate pain, and give them the best possible quality of life – all free of charge"
Their mission is: "to deliver the best possible palliative care in Sheffield, whilst developing and driving continual improvements for everyone affected by terminal illness"
I think we can all agree that they are a great charity to be supporting!
Our SU Officers are going to be doing some volunteering in St Lukes' new shop on The Moor, as well as looking at taking part in some of their active challenges to fundraise for the amazing organisation.
Some of the active challenges they are considering are abseiling and the Sheffield 10k. More information about the active challenges can be found by clicking on the link below.
If you want to get involved in any of these (it would be great to have a College team!) or volunteering or fundraising for St Lukes', drop us an email at studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk
Time To Talk Day at The Sheffield College
Time To Talk Day is coming up on the 1st February. The day is dedicated to opening up conversations around mental health and well-being. There are events coming up in College on 1st February, as well as throughout the month.
The Students' Union Officers are wanting to support students by reminding you that if you need someone to talk to, then College have options and services to support students, and to make sure you know that you are not alone. They will be popping into tutorials, and sending out messages to remind students of the support that is in place, both inside and outside of College.
There are plenty of other bits going on for Time To Talk, including some drop in craft activities on 1st February at City (in Upper Student Central 10am-12pm) and Hillsborough (in room A019 1-3pm). These are open to all students, so drop in and take a moment to relax. See you there!
