What is the The Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Business and Enterprise Academy?
The Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Business and Enterprise Academy is one of our unique employer skills academies which aims to inspire all students about enterprise, entrepreneurship and self-employment.
There’s never been a more important time than now to help yourself stand out from the crowd. Employers and Universities are forever on the hunt for students who shine, and that’s why as a member of The Sheffield Chambers of Commerce Business and Enterprise Academy you get exclusive access to lots of opportunities to help you develop those skills and qualities to ensure that you can be that spark!
Whether that's inspirational insight talks by successful industry experts and influential entrepreneurs, exclusive skills masterclasses, our business START Up programme or heaps of exciting enterprise challenges and competitions - you name it, we offer it.
You can receive all the updates about upcoming events by registering your interest. Anyone can join! So if the thought of developing key enterprise and employability skills appeals to you or the thought of being your own boss intrigue and excites you, read on for further information and sign up today!
Who can join?
Anyone can join the Academy from any level, any course and at any age. We accept all learner and apprentices from the Sheffield College. Even if this is not something directly related to your course, you're welcome to come along!

Where are we?
We are usually based at both the City Campus the Lecture Theatre AND in the Hillsborough Campus Presentation Suite.

Each month as an Academy Member you can access an inspirational employer insight talk.
This will be based on one of our monthly themes! These themes are relevant for all industries and you do not need to have a business idea to take part!
Depending on your membership level, you can unlock a variety of rewards and prizes. Each level will earn you nationally recognised digital badges. You can do as little or as much as you want! The more you do, the higher your membership level.
START Up
START Up is a 8 week business programme aimed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to launch your own business. In collaboration with a whole host of reputable establishments related to enterprise, every week we are joined by an expert guest speaker from varying backgrounds to deliver a topic integral to the start-up process:
How to think of a business idea
Business planning, finance/tax and law
Branding, marketing, networking and e-commerce
Pitching your idea for investment
You will be supported to enter regional initiatives and events to win support to help with launching your business. The programme is offered at City and Hillsborough Campuses.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must:
Be enrolled onto one of our Level 2 programmes or above (Lower levels will be considered on a case by case basis).
Be free to attend either the sessions on Wednesday afternoons (City) or Thursday afternoons (Hillsborough)
Commit to the programme – if you sign up you have to complete the full 8weeks. The dates for the 2026 - 2027 year are:
City Cohort: 13th January - 10th March
Hillsborough Cohort: 28th January - 25th March
