Welcome back to this month’s edition of the newsletter! It has been an action packed term so far, with activities taking place across all six campuses. We’ve seen the launch of our third SU campaign of the year, alongside Health and Wellbeing events for students and parents.
We also celebrated the Share the Wear event, alongside the fashion show organised by our sixth form students, all a part of Big Green Week where a range of activities have taken place in order for students to gain BetterPoints. The launch of our first ever Women’s Society has taken place, ran by the SU Women's Officer.
There are also various events approaching such as the Community Open Day, the Students Voice Conference and a Korea Day celebrated within the University of Sheffield.
You can find a recap of these events and information on upcoming opportunities to get involved below!
SU Campaign
We believe that every single student at our college deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. That’s why we are incredibly proud to launch our new Respect & Boundaries campaign this term!
This isn't just a campaign about the display of posters, it’s a movement to define how we interact with one another, whether that’s in the classroom, outside of college, or social media. We are focusing on three core areas to make our campus a better place for everyone:
Understanding boundaries: Normalising open conversations about comfort levels and boundaries in all types of college relationships
Shared respect: By educating both groups, students and staff, we want to ensure that everyone is playing by the same rules of engagement, maintaining a campus culture that is dependable and supportive
Consistent access to support: Familiarity within posters and resources to provide consistency for students and give further clarity of the actions that are taken when seeking support
If you are passionate about these topics or want to be involved or contribute to the campaign, please get in touch with the SU team by emailing studentsunion@sheffcol.ac.uk or popping into one ofthe SU offices!
Opportunity to meet Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime for South Yorkshire
The college will be having a visit from the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime for South Yorkshire, Kilvinder Vigurs, to City Campus on Wednesday 13th May 2026, from 09:15 to 10:15.
She will meet with a group of students in a session to discuss some of the following:
Kilvinder to share her insights into the role of Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
Kilvinger to reflect on her career journey and professional experiences
Kilvinder will take questions from students on matters that are important to them (e.g., community safety).
You can find out more about the Deputy Mayor via the link below.
This is a fantastic opportunity to talk to Kilvinder, learn about her role and ask questions about issues that matter to you as learners. Please email if studentvoice@sheffcol.ac.uk you want to attend this great session!
Share the Wear Event - Spring Edition
On April 24th the Share the Wear event held from 11am to 1pm by the Students Union was ran to create an environmental impact on our campus, giving products a second life. By facilitating the exchange of pre loved clothing, the event did more than just clear out closets, it fostered a spirit of sustainability, inclusivity, and mutual support among students.
The enthusiasm displayed during the two hours of the event emphasises that there is a strong appetite for sustainable alternatives on campus. The engagement level demonstrates that students are not only interested in saving money, but are also actively seeking ways to participate in creating a difference. We're looking forward to more events running like this in the upcoming future.
A massive shout out to the sixth form students, who worked tirelessly to pull the Fashion Show together, which ran alongside the Share the Wear event. From choreographing the runway walks to providing the clothing and sourcing the music, their dedication made the event look professional, and most importantly, uplifting and fun.
"Our sustainable fashion team aimed to make you wear the change, with cheap and environmental outfits that are both stylish and comfortable to wear. At our fashion show, we revealed the power of sustainability. because we believe that every piece of clothing tells a story, one where we help the environment." - Dilbreen Ali, Sixth Form student

Public Transport - 26th March
Bella Eames - SU Deputy President -
It was amazing to be invited to the Sheffield Students Assembly all about public transport. Many of the issues that university students face are also issues which our students experience, especially those who are over 19.
With this in mind, it was great to hear about the three things the Students’ Assembly are asking of those who have influence within the public transport industry, like a student single tram fare, which we know would benefit many of our students. We also took part in a roundtable discussion, and our officers were very engaged and voiced their opinions confidently.
Community Open Day
Saturday 9th May - 10am-1pm
We are opening our doors and inviting everyone students, staff, and external companies alike to celebrate the vibrant community we share.

The SU will be running activities alongside a range of college teams with food and drink available.
We hope to see you there!

"The women's society is incredibly important to me. I want it to be a space that women are able to come together and talk about common issues they face, aswell as ways the college can support them in their struggles. I want the society to be used as a way for women to support eachother aswell as socialise with their peers. Im excited about the opportunities this society will bring for improvement towards support avaliable for women in college and out in the world."

Sheffield Smokefree Service - free weekly clinic
Sheffield Smokefree Service are hoping to set up a free on-site weekly clinic at City campus to provide free smoking cessation support and also medication to help reduce withdrawal symptoms. For this to happen, we need at least six people to be referred to the Smokefree Service via college, rather than people contacting the Smokefree Service directly.
Please contact Liz Roscoe, the Smokefree Project Co-ordinator, to be referred or for further information Liz.Roscoe@sheffcol.ac.uk
