Hello everyone,
The summer break is nearly here! Now that everyone is ready for a well deserved rest, we wanted to take a moment to look back and celebrate the absolute best of the last few weeks, all about you, as students.
This month's newsletter is a massive celebration of student life. We are sharing some of the incredible achievements and milestones students have reached this half term. Whether you've smashed a personal goal, excelled in a team activity, or simply shown up every day with a positive attitude, we could not be prouder of all of your hard work.
Looking at the wins highlighted below, I am reminded of exactly why I ran for this role: because of how brilliant, resilient, and talented our student community is.
Thank you for trusting me and working alongside me these past two years to make our union what it is today. I've learnt so much being your SU President, and I'm looking forward to supporting the new SU team in the elections who will be in role next academic year.
Grab a cup of tea and take a look at what you, our amazing young people have been up to!

𓇼 Student Achievements 𓇼
Student Achievements never cease to amaze us. From the classroom to the sports field, and everywhere in between, your hard work and dedication continue to shine. This month, we are incredibly proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of you as students. Join us in cheering on these successes!
The Muslim Girls Club at college is a welcoming and supportive space where students came together, socialised, and built friendships in a safe environment. It provided an opportunity for members to connect, play board games, and enjoy each other’s company while feeling included and respected.
The club also encouraged teamwork and creativity through planning and participating in meaningful projects, such as organising the Eid event at college held by the girls in our society, which was enjoyed by many students and helped celebrate our culture and community. - Shaden Abdullah
I was very proud to be told that this student had received a recognition from her supported internship.
This student is mostly non-speaking and over the years I have known her she has always been so, this is a remarkable achievement for her and I think that she should receive a large pat on the back from everyone - marking her incredible improvement in confidence and also her ability to carry out instructions and meet requirements of her employers.

I would like to thank you for inviting me to the BSL club. I enjoyed the sessions. I loved learning new things like greetings, weather, and so on.
It was interactive, and I met new people.Thank you.

As part of Community Day, we planned a range of nature-based and forest school activities for children of all ages, from nursery groups to primary school visitors. The activities included a nature treasure hunt, planting and decorating flower pots, a calm reading corner among the greenery, colouring stations, arts & crafts, and outdoor musical instruments.
None of these activities would have been possible without creating a supportive, engaging, nurturing, and safe environment for every child who visited. Many told us they did not want to leave and parents commented on how engaged and happy their children looked throughout the day. By the end of Community Day, we had welcomed a steady flow of visitors to the outdoor classroom, and every child who took part left with a decorated flower pot, a planted seed to grow at home, and a positive memory of time spent in nature.

Jess Thompson won a dragon’s den style competition at the Sheffield Technology Parks. After completing the Start Up programme which is an 8-week self-employment programme within college, Jess was selected to go to pitch her business idea in front of business owners at The Sheffield Technology Parks.
Jess confidently pitched her crochet business which is already up and running and won 6 months mentoring from the Tech Parks over 5 other students. A massive congratulations on your pitch and growing business!
This year, we introduced our first Buddy Scheme as part of our international programmes and the impact has been truly unforgettable.
By pairing visiting students with Sheffield College students from across different academies, we created genuine opportunities for connection. Our Thai, Italian and Brazilian students didn’t just attend lessons they experienced college life alongside their peers, sharing conversations about everything from study routines to cultural differences. From comparing uniform rules (nails and piercings allowed here, but not back home in Thailand!) to understanding free study time in the UK versus full timetables abroad, these exchanges brought learning to life in a meaningful way.
One of the highlights was a simple but powerful activity: mapping out “gaps” in the timetable. What started as a practical exercise became a fun and eye-opening discussion about independence, time management, and student life in the UK.
What stood out most was the sense of belonging created in such a short time. Our visitors felt truly welcomed not just by staff, but by their buddies and new friends across both academic and vocational areas of the College. On departure day, there were hugs, tears, and promises to stay in touch.
The Buddy Scheme proved to be much more than a support initiative...this became a bridge between cultures, breaking down barriers and building confidence on both sides. We are incredibly proud and excited to grow and develop this programme even further in the years ahead.

This year I did a course called the Environmental leadership program and as part of the course we organised a fashion show trying to advocate for sustainable fashion. The fashion show was a success and we got to learn a lot from each other as well.

Learners at Peaks have taken part in an enrichment trip week this week. Learners have visited different museums including Kelham Island Museum, Weston Park Museum and National Videogames Museum, Rother Valley Country ark, Norfolk Heritage Park, Meadowhall where they took part in bowling and mini-golf and also participated in external Martial Arts sessions. It has been a great opportunity for learners to put their knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom into practice whilst accessing the community.

𓇼 Quotes from Our SU Officers 𓇼
The Students' Union team is made up of 2 paid staff members as well as 10 student volunteer officers. This year, we have had a fantastic team of students who have been committed to empowering other students and working to help enhance student experience here at The Sheffield College. We are so proud of them and everything they have achieved and want to say thank you for all of their effort. After spending a year in their roles, we aksed them to reflect upon their experience and what they have learned.
'I've been a SU officer for a few years now and the experience you get is great, also meeting the different officers which are also involved to.'
Sharon Harper - Mature Students' Officer
"Being a student officer has been such a positive experience, it's helped me with personal growth and it was amazing to work as a team. The best part though was seeing other students around the colleges enjoy the activities we set up!"
Isabelle Evans - Well-Being Officer
During my time as the Student Union’s Environmental officer at college, I developed a range of valuable personal, leadership, and employability skills which I know benefit me in my future prospects. As an Environmental Officer, I took responsibility for promoting sustainability initiatives within the college community and encouraging students to become more environmentally aware for example through the Planet Earth Games. This role helped me improve my communication, teamwork, and organisational skills while working with both staff and students on projects and campaigns.
Being involved in the Student Union also strengthened my confidence and ability to represent the views of others professionally. I learned how to contribute to meetings, solve problems effectively, and work collaboratively as part of a team. Through these experiences, I developed important employability skills such as leadership, time management, adaptability, and public speaking.
In addition, Working with the other Officers in The Student union I met and collaborated with people with different skills and abilities working together to create and design different campaigns which support the student engagement and contribute to a positive college environment.
Lucy Owen - Environmental Officer
“Being the Ethnicity Diversity Officer this year has been such a meaningful experience. I have loved being able to represent students, amplify voices that often go unheard, and contribute to creating a more inclusive environment. This role has helped me grow in confidence and taught me the importance of listening, collaboration, and standing up for what matters. It’s been a privilege to work alongside the team, support cultural events, and see the real impact we can make together. I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who trusted me to advocate for them.”
Sindiso Zimheni - Ethnic Diversity Officer
🏳️🌈Pride Month🏳️🌈
It's June which means that Pride month is here!
Pride month is celebrated across the world and it sees events taking place throughout the month of June to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and how far their rights and acceptance of the community have come.
To celebrate Pride month within the college, we hosted a variety of events for students to get involved in.
On Tuesday 9th June, we hosted a Cupcakes and Colouring event at Peaks campus. The bakery students created some amazing rainbow cupcakes which we were able to give out to students there. We also gave away pride themed freebies as well as hosting a colouring station for students and staff. Overall, the students had a wonderful time and thought that the cupcakes were delicious, with students trying to sneak back for a second!
On Thursday 11th June, in collaboration with marketing, we ran Pride stalls at City and Hillsborough. Again, we gave out the hugely popular rainbow cupcakes made by the bakery students, as well as freebies like stickers, flags and temporary tattoos. The Learning Hub also got involved, displaying a fantastic array of books which explore LGBTQ+ themes and also hosting badgemaking to allow students to create something they can wear that expresses who they are. At City, some Media Makeup students came along to offer face paint to students.
The Students' Union wish all of our college community who are celebrating a Happy Pride Month!
