Just wanted to get this date out as soon as possible.... Please mark your calendars for January 12, 2015 from 6-7 pm for the 6th Grade 1st Semester Awards Presentation and our Wax Museum 1800's Research Project Presentation!
The schedule for the evening is 6:00-6:25, your student will be presenting their Wax Museum Presentation in Room 310B. From 6:30-7:00, 6th grade students will be receiving awards for their 1st semester accomplishments in the library.
In terms of the Wax Museum, here is what we have been working on:
Before Thanksgiving, your student received an assignment to write a biography research essay on an individual from the 1800's that made an impact on politics, art, music, architecture, etc. to tie with our Charlotte Doyle literature study. Over the past month, students have worked in class to complete this assignment. Students researched their person and learned how to cite their references. They then learned how to organize their research into outline format. This week, we are finishing up our outlines and our rough drafts so that I can make edits/suggestions over break. After break, we will finish the editing process and publish our essay including a title page, written essay, and a works cited page in MLA format. Once the essay is complete, students will write a speech in first person to perform at the Wax Museum presentation that will take place on January 12th.
We will need your support in getting ready for our Wax Museum Night. Your student will need a costume to represent their historic figure. They will feel more confident if it is a costume they are proud of. Please do not rent or buy one! Have your student get creative! Look in your closets, dress-up bins, Grandparents closets etc... Look on the internet with your student to get an idea of what the fashions were at the time this person lived. If you must buy something, a thrift store is a great place to go. I am not looking for an exact replica, just something that represents the person and/or the time that they lived. You will receive additional information regarding the Wax Museum as we finalize our plans. Feel free to contact me with any questions. As the date approaches, I will send more information regarding our Wax Museum presentation night.
Thank you in advance for your support of this endeavor!
