Well, can you believe we are fast approaching midterms already! WOW!
4th GRADE-
In Reading, we just finished our first literature unit, Holes. The students have finally figured out what all the digging is about! The mystery is solved. We are now learning how to write a book review that includes a plot summary, thematic statement, and reason to recommend. We will also be watching the movie, so we can compare and contrast the movie to the book. We also have been working on our Greek/Latin Roots. We will have a root test every 10 root cards and the tests are cumulative. Students should be studying their roots daily. They can use their flashcards or quizlet. Next week, we will begin our unit learning fiction and nonfiction text structures and organization. We will also begin to learn how to annotate text and cite text correctly. Lastly, we have discussed the Masquerade Party Quarter 1 Book Project in class. We will begin practicing and writing our presentation next week in class. The Masquerade Project will be in the classroom with use of the Science Lab on October 5th! Students should bring their mask/costume to class and they will be given time to change into it prior to our party.
In Math, we have been focusing on problem solving strategies with our Math Olympiad problems. Students are getting better and better at explaining their math thinking. Next week, we will focus DIVISION in Chapter 3 of our text. Students can be using ixl.com to practice thier 4th grade skills and content. It is really important that students have a strong mastery of their basic facts for Honors Math. Lastly, don’t forget about the Math Quarterly Project due October 7th! Students should be working little by little on it. Don’t wait until the last minute!!!
